    More on EXIF

Is there any way to manually override or change the EXIF data connected to an image.

One of my favorite lenses for my Canon DSLR cameras is an older Tokina 28-70mm f/2.8 ATX which was built on the specs and plans of the Angenieux 28-70mm f/2.6 lens and was originally termed Tokina 28-70mm f/2.6-2.8 ATX lens for sales in the USA and just Tokina 28-70mm f/2.8 ATX for Japanese consumption. My copy is one produced for the Japanese market.

Anyhow... when I shoot with this lens and open the image using Adobe Bridge, the EXIF reads Canon EF 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 as the lens used. If the EXIF cannot be corrected, I would prefer to have it removed...

I can't vouch for any of them, but there are lots of free EXIF editors, for example, this list. Caveat emptor: I haven't used any of these.

Iirc, the lens type is stored as a number. And as usual, there's no agreement between manufacturers about who gets to use which numbers.
Normally, I'd expect my editor to give me a list of potential candidates when it needs the lens type (for e.g. distortion correction)...

Even if you could remove that tag (not sure you can, and zero is also a value), having a value in that field at least gives you a restricted list
of options to choose from. So I would leave it as is.

    Another list here Dan:

I use ExifToolGUI to view metadata, but you have to use the command-line version for batch editing.

I use XnView for editing the so-called "core" IPTC and embedded XMP data (creator, etc.).

Sad that the elephant in the room has forced it's XMP into the world of meta-data ... grump.

Seems that the "elephant in the room" has a habit of doing that regardless of whether we are looking at software, hardware and pretty well anything else. The elephant changes from time to time, but it always seems to win....

Richard, Exiftool is pretty easy to use.

As you can see, near top right are "Edit" and "Exiftool direct" clickables. Select your image, click on "Edit" then click "Exiftool Direct". you will get an indication as to what to input to change any data
