Congrats, I'm so glad it wasn't permanent Sara,

I hate to be a killjoy, but I suspect it will have shortened its life though, and there is a risk it'll develop mould, and/or be prone to problems in humid atmospheres in future, just something to be wary of.

Was the water fairly 'clean'? i.e. not full of fatty globules
If it was, and just had washing up liquid in it, that may actually have help as it breaks down surface tension and would have aided it draining out.

Hope it behaves itself in future,

You just wouldn't get advice like this on that other photography forum...

Awesome news! I'll have to remember the bowl of rice trick Could come in handy for other things too I'm sure.

Dave, I can live with a shorted (lens) life...I at least have time to save for another one! The water was actually pretty clean, I had just filled an already rinsed out sauce pan with hot water and washing up liquid so hopefully it won't be too bad...

Rob, I'm not sure which 'other' site you are referring to...not that I'm interested...I definitely get all the advise I could possibly need here

Colin...hugs being sent across the ocean!

Brian, I told my friend about the bowl of rice thing and apparently it sometimes works on mobile phones??

Now, I just need to read the instructions for how to reply to threads like you guys do and then I'm sorted

The medium sized silica gel packets work also, although the rice trick is cheaper, although slower. Just don't use the loose granules of silica gel, as the powder can migrate into the interior. I've used both those tricks on military equipment during QC testing.

    Sara

If you're wanting to just include one quote, then use 'Reply with Quote', rather than 'Reply'

If you want to include more than one quote from different people, then the quickest way, for me, is to copy and paste what ypou want to quoted, then highlight that same block of text once you've pasted it, and hit the 'Quote' icon; i.e. the one third from the right that looks like a speech box from a comic book. That puts the correct code at the beginning and at the end. And that's it.

It's great when you're hungry, but unfortunately, you have to fill up the lens with a lot more water first!

Haha! I hate to imagine my zoom lens coming out of the steamer full of fluffy rice
