Japanse peonies

A few of the peonies in our garden are Japanse varieties, which look very different (much more open) when fully opened than do our domestic ones. Here are two shots, the first taken last night and the second a couple of years ago and posted here then, I think. I thought it made a nice contrast to the new one.

Both are stacked, using Zerene DMap. I don't remember how many images went into the old one, but the new one is a composite of 6.

Do you control the light ? Is it inside ?
Could you give some light (reflector like sheet of white paper, for example) from the back of the flower and not so much "in front" ?
Perhaps more "tangencial" light would return also great results...
Excuse me if I am suggesting too much because this work is so nice...

Thanks. Both are inside. There are two lights: one reflected from a silver umbrella, and the other direct but diffused. the diffused light is from the side, at an acute angle. That's what creates the main shadows. I thought about backlighting, but in the end, I decided I preferred bringing out the texture this way.
