    Tilly and Penny

I met my brother's dogs for the first time a while back. At first Tilly, a rather nervous the Cairn terrier, was very wary of me, but after a day she adopted me. This is only about the third shot of dogs that I've ever taken. It was just a snap, really, because they were very fidgety. I had no time to plan the shot or try flash. The dogs were at the top of some steps, which helped with getting nearer eye level, but Tilly was very dark in the original raw, presumably because Penny is white.

Somehow Tilly's coat colour looks "wrong", kind of gray and bleached except for the face and chest. The brindle tones often seen in cairns is there in the face but I've never seen one with that colour around the sides.

Nice portraits, they are very attentive, whenever I've tried photographing pets they tended to move towards the camera for further investigation.

I really like the eye level shot of the two dogs as well as how inventively they are gazing at the camera. IMO shooting multiple dogs increases the difficulty geometrically...

I am not sure if including the entire red ball might add to the composition but, that is really a nit-picking comment...

Thanks Manfred. I think you’re right. I had to lift the shadows a lot and I think this is the problem. I’ll try again and post my revision.

Thank you John. Yes, my brother’s previous dogs, which I met only a few times some years ago, were really uncooperative.
