    Landscape photography, the joys of

I took a break from processing tonight to watch this absorbing lecture by landscape photographer Charlie Waite. His main thesis is an argument in favour of beauty, but what resonated most with me was his observation that, rather than distance the photographer from nature, the camera brings him or her closer to it. That has definitely been my experience. For one thing, I have never been more alert to the presence of birds than since I started photographing the osprey down at the lake two or three years ago.

Passionate, indeed. I confess I did not know him before I watched this, but I am very impressed with his work, especially the latest, which I think is sublime.

Finally had a chance to view, interesting discussion and just lie Waite said, I as a viewer when he displayed his images either looked and favored or began to dissect the photographer's work, thinking why did he frame it this way or why did he use four subjects instead of cropping to include only three.

Thanks, Janis, for bringing this topic to the forum. Whilst I had heard of Charlie Waite I was not conversant with his wonderful landscape images. I would suggest he has much admiration for and has been clearly influenced by the great Ansel Adams.

I love Charlie Waite! His style is so unique, and his photos truly convey a spiritual quality of serenity! I have also just started taking landscape photos, and I genuinely enjoy it so much! I think that from all photography forms, landscape photography is the most rewarding one! Ah, by the way, I've obviously started taking landscape photos because of Charlies Waite's work. But also because I came across the word of Alexander Vershinin, another super-skilled landscape photographer. His images are full of color and life.

Although landscape photography has never been my favorite field (pun intended), I did enjoy the video on Charlie Waite...
