Interesting move by the hitherto Foveon champions!

The article says the camera uses a BSI Bayer sensor, not a Foveon.
I wonder why Sigma has gone “mainstream”? Is the Foveon sensor being phased out?

This lot has been thrown into utter confusion:

So I can understand puzzlement being expressed elsewhere.
However, Manfred, it can not really be said that Sigma has suddenly "gone mainstream" nor can it said that the Foveon sensor has been or is "being phased out". Earlier this year, Sigma had already announced a full-frame Foveon sensor in an L-mount body for release in 2020 and that announcement has not been rescinded as far as I know.
A consensus of hot air emitted over the past few days is that the subject camera is heavily oriented towards fancy video and (size-wise) perhaps toward drone work.

No optical EVF? I think Ted is right.
