    Splash!

High water levels in Lake Ontario with some wind action produced some attractive wave action and splashing against this pier.

Well captured! I suppose if that were Hawaii, it wouldn't get a second glance ...

Good timing on the shot Joe; you're very close to peak height on the wave.

I find that your shutter speed might just be a touch high for my taste as the water is frozen rather than seeming to move. It's hard to nail this to please everyone, but if you get back to shooting this type of scene you might want to experiment with faster and slower shutter speeds to see which one looks best.

The time of day and lighting are not helping a lot though; harsh, hard shadows throughout, unfortunately.

I tend to use longer exposures to achieve that smooth flowing look, This time i opted ti freeze. I agree abiut diing bith and deciding later.

If you try a slower shutter speed with this sort of shot, Joe, you are likely to get some subject movement blur from the people moving around. So this current scene suits me. No over exposure on the whites either.

Joe - if you are experimenting with water shots, do give Manfred's suggestion a try. However, I like the image as posted and would pretty well always prefer fast (shutter) and frozen (motion) for this particular type of water shot as it (to me) adds to the drama.

Good timing, Joe! I would like to see this in B&W too, think it would work well.
