Thank you for your detailed reply. It was very helpful to clarify my 'thought' (see below).

As I mentioned, I was stating my 'thought' in the hope that there might be discussion: in part that was self serving because I wanted input to move forward in my thinking.

A (long) while ago I read papers concerning Photo-Microscopy; my memory has it that apochromates were used in many of the tools used to gather data. It is unclear to me if using an apochromate is typical or not, I just remember that it was always mentioned if it was part of the lens design.

Now (what you wrote) summarizes succinctly my original erratic thought . . .
