It all looks very bright. The sunset experts on here always write about waiting until after the sun is below the horizon. Maybe you needed to hang out for about an hour to really get the mood into it.
It's clear the potential is there with those large rocks and the water lapping around them.
So, indeed, a 'well almost' - which is all part of the learning process.

I don't know about the West Coast of Rhodes Island but, here on the West Coast of the USA, in Southern California, we are often very disappointed regarding sunsets. We will be tracking what looks like a beautiful sunset about to happen and then poof, the sun disappears behind a cloud bank hugging the horizon and we have no discernible sunset.

Hi Russell. Looks like the start of and excellent image. You don't mention if you used any grad filters to help with the exposure. Most of time you will be able to use the filters like in this instance to lower the amount of light coming from the sky area so it doesn't blow the highlights. They are various ways to set things up but it all depends on the light and subjects at the time but if you don't own grad filters then I highly recommend them.
