    Epson SCP600 question

I need to print a panoramic image on my SCP600 ... but as far as I can see nobody makes archival exhibition quality roll paper for it ... unless you guys know better.
Best alternative I can find is to buy a roll of really good paper (obviously the wrong size for the printer) and carefully trim it to the size I need which would obviously be a real headache.
So anybody know of a manufacturer who makes quality roll paper 13inches wide with a 2inch core ?

Not sure about Europe, but Moab has a line of 13” roll stock fine art paper which includes rag papers. These are 3” cores.

    Paul,

The signature worthy papers have ratings of 200 years for color prints and 400 years for black and white prints in indoor conditions, wouldn't these meet your needs and if so they have 13" roll media?

That's a pretty broad statement and largely incorrect. It depends on the paper itself. Two of my favourite papers under glass have lives considerably short than that.

The Wilhelm Research data on the P600 and the Ultrachrome HD inks on specific Epson papers can be found here:

    http://wilhelm-research.com/epson/WI...2019-02-15.pdf

Aardenburg results are more conservative than Wilhelm Research and their database is smaller than Wilhelm.

    https://www.aardenburg-imaging.com/

    https://www.aardenburg-imaging.com/p...esults-part-i/

The 3rd party paper data is rather spotty.

So far as I know the inksets of the P600 and P800 (that I use) are identical.

As someone who relies on shelf life data I know that tests are not real time and accelerated testing under controlled conditions are used to make those predictions.

The methodology is used by both Wilhelm Research and Aardenberg are variants of test methodologies have been used by paint manufacturers for decades. Accelerated testing has been using in many fields and has a proven track record as a predictive performance tool. In addition to print life it is used to estimate paint weathering, corrosion and other operating environment tests.

The main difference between the two companies is that Aardenberg uses a more rigorous approach in defining and acceptable amount of fading than Wilhelm Research does. Mark McCormick-Goodhart, the founder of Aardenberg had previously worked for Wilhelm Research.

    Re: Epson SCP600 question

My favourite paper, Fotospeed Baryta comes in rolls with a 3inch core which doesn't fit my printer (also they're 17 inches wide). Checked the Moab site and again, 3 inch cores. Has to be 2 inch unfortunately. Only thing close is Marrut a paper I don't know at all, don't know if any of you guys are familiar with it.
Seems a little bizarre that Epson make this rather nice printer (SCP600) with roll feed capability but don't make a really good paper for it and I can't find anyone else that does either. Looks like I'll be taking a scalpel to an oversize roll and trimming into panorama size sheets :-(

Great I need someone to try it for me. I have an Epson SCP600 and have been puzzling over the same problem.

I came across some non-roll flat panoramic paper sizes at Red River Paper. https://www.redrivercatalog.com/cate...oto_paper.html At some stage in the future I will probably try and get some. However it would be great to have someone try it out first.

    Re: Epson SCP600 question

Paul, I don't think I can find Red River paper here in France so it's either the scalpel or alternatively a professional printer. There's one in London that mounts prints on acrylic and as I don't do many panoramas ... I'm tempted. A few years ago on my last A3+ printer I could get roll paper no problem from Hahnemuhle, now apparently not the case. Honestly it's a bit annoying, great printer and one of the reasons I got it was for the roll feed capability. The photo in question is one that I've just posted (Morocco) that my wife really likes and I promised her a print.

Red River is a mail-order business, and they do ship internationally. I know nothing more than what's posted here.

Paul - it might be work approaching Epson here.

I have the roll adapter for the P800. When I look at it, there is a native 2" adapter built into the holders and an additional 3" adapter that fits over top of the 2" holder on both ends. I wonder if this can be ordered from their parts department and used with your P600 roll adapter?

If that works, it would certainly solve your problem.

Thanks Manfred I will look, but on the P600 the roll adaptors are specifically built to take a 2 inch core. Maybe they do adaptors that take a 3 inch core as well but given the number of panoramic images that I do it may not be economically sound. Worth a look though ...

So is the P800; the base core seen in the image with the chromed bar is set up for 2" / 50mm cores in post #11. The 3" / 75mm cores fit right over top of them and nests in place.

The 2" spool is the lighter colour and the dark gray 3" spool fits right over it.

    Re: Epson SCP600 question

Paul - I just thought of another option.

If you can get a 2" core, just buy paper on a 3" core and wind it onto the smaller diameter core.

We end up having to so something similar with the seamless paper at the photo club studio that I belong to. They have an old "home made" paper holder with a large diameter core. When we change to a new roll of seamless. we attach (with tape) the seamless to the core and wind it onto it.

It's a bit of a pain to do, but once we are done we are usually good for a year or two of use.
