Mystery solved I think. When editing the raw image in ProPhoto colour space the histogram was all good. Converting to sRGB and the red channel blows.

I get that too with the Sigma raw converter, Peter, if the working space is set to ProPhoto. For that reason, I now have the working space permanently set to sRGB so that any highly saturated colors don't blow or bottom when exporting as sRGB.
