Use Clear og UV filter?

I am puzzled by this issue of having to source items from the UK. At another site I was surprised to discover another UK chap was considering using Micro SD cards+adapters for his work as he said he could not source SD cards in the UK at a reasonable price - not to consider that the UK has a population of around 66 million, and with Europe on the UK's doorstep, and rest of the world available too via the WWW, I would have thought this would not be an issue.

NZ is arguably one of the most remote 1st world countries in the world, and we don't have access to the same supplier networks of larger countries for all things photographic (or anything else for that matter!) For us it is pretty normal to hop on the web and source stuff from around the planet as required.

If your using a digital camera a UV filter has no effect. They only come into there own when using film.

That statement does not apply to all combinations of filter/camera/lens. In post #4 of this thread, I already wrote of the Sigma DP2 Merrill camera:

"After much research, I chose the Hoya UV (0). Haven't notice any more flare than without a filter, but generally I don't include bright objects in the frame. I notice very slightly more contrast with filter on and a slightly darker sky."

^ as an aside: I think that the statement is prone to ambiguity.
I thought maybe it was just testing the water as a first time post.

It could be interesting to see color curves for digital sensors. Is it possible to discern between sensors with different sensitivity? For visible light, and for not-visible light like UV and IR?

Thank you for this post - I read the attachment and hopefully got a better grasp of this topic.
As far as I could see digital sensors ARE sensible to non-visible light. And as long as WB adjustments not are tuned to handle this, filters may be necessary.

I found this article about the Foveon X3 sensor described in the attachment that have advantages to the Bayer filter sensors, but yet needs development referring to a statement from Sigmas CEO as sited in dpreview.com. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foveon_X3_sensor
