I agree, nicely framed. I would consider increasing contrast. You have a full tonal range, but most in the bottom 3/4. You could increase contrast by anchoring the bottom and brightening the midtones, e.g.,

In the leaf and both footpath images, the histograms are showing signs of significant amounts of PP (spikes, sawtooth patterns). Makes me wonder how the original out-of-camera images looked before editing ...

... Just curious, no criticism intended. Histogram stuff like that, especially spikes, bother this pedantic old man.

Very little PP on the footpath--some increase in saturation in leaves and slight rotation of orientation, a little vaporizing of some trash on the path

the leaf--significant cropping and removal of some stray branches

I am not a purist for PP. I am willing to make the image what I want rather than a record shot--just my preference. Of Course I must start with a good base. We all approach our images differently.

Judith - I generally have a polarizing filter in my bag and use it for most shots that involve leaves, I'll pop it on and use it to cut the reflections. These reflections tend to be there even on cloudy days.

Yes, there is a trade-off; I will need about a 1-1/2 stop larger exposure to compensate for light loss from the polarizer. I don't see a lot of image quality loss when I shoot at ISO 200 versus the base ISO of my camera (ISO 64). The polarizer is one filter that can't be replicated in post-processing. In a shot like this, there is no sky so one does not even have to worry about the look and banding in the sky at wide angles that can result from using a polarizing filter.

    Week 42: From the Sea
2019 Project 52 Judith Noble (Urbanflyer) 4th quarter C & CFrom the Sea--Burke Museum by urbanflyer, on Flickr

Our natural history museum just reopened in their new building. One area had a heap of negatives on a light table and this is what I constructed. Quite a change of pace for me but a challenge in PP.

An interesting and effective image, Judith. Almost abstract. The B&W is an effective treatment and the super tight crop is effective as well.
