Here is my entry for this month competition: Yellow Mountains
Taken on 8 Dec 2010 in Yellow Mountains (China), this shot took me about 3 hours. I identified this location one day earlier. Since the foreground mountain peaks were too far away from my camera, it was not possible to get enough brightness of these peaks. So I came here before the darkness, focused and took a shot of them. Then after the sky was completely dark, I started the exposure on the stars - luckily, it was a clear night. The complete star trails were captured in 76 minutes. Then I partially blended the shot of foreground peaks with the late star trails image, and kept the overall tone consistent across the frame.

Image taken early this morning on the day of a forecast temperature of 40 degrees in the city - hotter inland with gale force northerly (straight off the desert) winds.
These are the conditions from which were born Ash Wednesday and Black Saturday.
....this is Australia
