Now THAT is a beautiful portrait. What a cute expression, one can see the thought process described in the title.

How did you get your pup to sit like that, so still?

Thanks Sharon. For outdoor shots it is always shutter speed over obedience !

Great shot Peter - I love the expression and the way that the ball is being guarded. The caption says it all!

    A few thoughts:

    1. I wonder if opening up the shadows beneath the ears and snout as well as the belly areas might not be worth considering. The dark areas draw too much attention, I think.

    2. I'm not sure if the tree on the left is adding to the image, so removing it would be worth considering.

    3. Is the grass really that saturated?

    4. I might think about painting a couple of catch lights into the eyes.

Great capture of your beautiful dog...

I like to use a fill flash when photographing a dog. Using a small flash like the TT350S (for my Sony cameras) will not produce a lot of light. I mainly use the flash, either in manual at a very low power or in TTL with a couple of stops minus flash EV, to achieve catchlights in dogs eyes.

I need to be careful about adding flash to images of my Goldendoodle because her coat will easily blow out if too high a power of flash is used.

Catchlights either as shot or achieved through PP later, make the eyes a lot more lively...
