Paul Strand and the western isles of Scotland

Paul Strand's 1954 trip to South Uist produced one of the great books of photography. This article (https://www.nationalgalleries.org/ar...an-photographs) speaks about the work.

Very interesting Donald, thanks for sharing the link.
There's some characters captured in those images. I particularly liked Angus and young John Angus McDonald of South Uist plus the Newhaven fisherman though that image is not one on Mr Strands images.
I didn't know that there had been a missile range on the Uists.

Donald, many thanks for posting this information. My trip to Benbecula and the Uists was twenty years after Strand's. Unfortunately my photos are not quite of the same caliber as Paul Strand's but (with reference to Peter's post) I do have two John Angus ancestors.

I read this book, it's just gorgeous! One of the best that I have ever taken in hand.

I once went to this school, it seemed difficult, but then I got to college, and there real problems began. But my student friends helped me by suggesting the site https://uk.edubirdie.com/physics-help which was incredible help in physics. I advise everyone to contact here and try to improve their grades for the maximum score, as I did!

Thanks for the links to the photos, Donald.

….and you would think that in such a remote spot you would be safe from coronavirus, but 31 cases in a population of around 1700 is tragic. Lets just hope they and the rest of the world can come out of this, as nowhere is immune, or ultimately safe.

As you say, Ian, it is tragic. There is so much that is awful about this time we are living in. It takes a pretty strong constitution to stand up to it and I feel so sorry for those who, emotionally as well as physically, get swept away in the midst of it.

Some really good photos and records of life.

It seems the increase in cases in the Uists(not sure if North or South Uist) are linked to car sharing. Sometimes this was necessary but it shows how easily COVID19 can spread.
