When I attach camera to lightroom the popup sign indicating import from camera or card reader is missing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled lightroom several times but no luck.
Any ideas?

...and if you click on IMPORT within LR (bottom left) can you see the source folder ?
Can you see the camera or card when you open up Explorer? It should just look like another drive. If your computer cannot see it, then there is likely either a mechanical or electrical problem with your connection.
I just imported photos from my Olympus m1 mk2 and is was fine. I also noticed the usb connection in explore. No such luck with my Fuji x100f that is no usb connection shown.
Will visit my favorite photo retailer tomorrow.
Have you had any system updates lately, I have the same issue with Capture NX-D, its just not responding anymore, Nikon Transfer works fine though. Luckily I don't use it that often, I sometimes use it to some focus markers.
One way to avoid this is to use a card reader rather than connecting your camera to the computer. This also gives you complete control over where the photos go on your computer. I leave a card reader plugged into my desktop.

Could it be that a setting on the Fuji concerning data transfer isn't correct? From the manual, it seems there are two possible settings, "card reader" or "raw conversion/backup restore".
I went to my friendly and knowable retailer and bought myself a card reader. Problem solved. I should have bought one eons ago.
