Thanks for sharing... I just purchased this book as a Kindle edition from Amazon.

Since I have done a fair amount of combat oriented photography, I am always interested in books on the subject.

I have a hard copy of this book which is interesting since it gives another view to WW-2 photography...

What made me decide to go to Vietnam when I had a chance to go to the East Coast and not deploy to Vietnam? I don't really know but, I think it was the excitement and the chance to get footage (I was a cinematographer) of something spectacular.

I was in my mid-twenties and didn't have enough sense to be afraid. That certainly would be different now! I was a very popular guy in my unit because, I would volunteer for tours to Vietnam which would leave some married guy home with his family. It wasn't that I was doing it for them. I was just doing something that I enjoyed...

Perhaps it was to get a jump on a career in network news. I thought that I wanted that but, when I got a chance to become a stringer for ABC News, I opted to stay in the Navy for a career. My father always wished out loud that he had stayed in the Navy (he was in from 1928-1932)... I am very glad that I did that now because between my retirement and that of my wife who retired as a college professor of nursing, we have a very comfortable retirement with our medical bills taken care of... This was brought to mind recently when our prescription provider was changed. This provider indicates how much each medication would cost on the open market. I was floored to find out that one cardiac med I am taking would cost $1,200 USD for a three month supply. My co-pay is $50 USD and all of my other medications are free.

I am now reading the book which I find very well written...

So far, I haven't noticed any reference to any photographer interviewed wanting to provide the very best coverage because he/she might be considered a better photographer and get kudos and good assignments.

I personally know that recognition of this type is a driving force with at least some photographers...
