However, my point was that such an effect on an image would be virtually the same - whether the lens is focused at my "virtually infinite" distance or it is focused at the true infinity setting (the one where incoming parallel rays actually focus at the sensor - not necessarily at the mark on the lens).
I suppose I'm agreeing with you, by the way. There would be no benefit other than not having to be too picky about the focus setting when shooting stars, as you have already said in a previous post.
