Hollywood Forever - Visual Overload

This is part three of my proposed four part Dia de los Muertos coverage,,,

Judy and I visited the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles for their Dia de los Muertos Celebration. It was a Hollywood Spectacular and was almost visual overload with the colors and costumes. The event was crowded with participants and visitors but, the cemetery (in which many Hollywood notables are buried) is very large and there was plenty of room to move around.

I was really impressed with the wonderful costumes and great examples of face painting. It was like Halloween, The Day of the Dead and Madi Gras combined. I was smart this time and traveled very light shooting with my Sony A6400 and Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens which was a perfect combination. The only change I would make is to substitute a Flashpoint Zoom Li-ion Mini TTL R2 Flash in lieu of the AA battery powered TTL350S flash I was using. I needed faster recycle time that the AA unit provided.

The only problem is that we did not arrive back home until eleven last night and I am too tired to attend part four of my Dia de los Muertos coverage, today at Old Town San Diego...

That first image trumps everything Richard...bloody superb. I remember spending a few hours at that cemetery a number of years ago. Beautiful location and the famous names !

Very interesting costumes here Richard. The light looks to have been challenging, given the hard shadows we see in some of the images. I can't tell for sure if this is due to the fill light or the ambient conditions, but the localized hot spots do suggest the flash might have been a touch too hot.

I particularly like the first one.
