    March 15 to March 22"

The last photos of this week, I have done at home and in the garden.
The first is simply a dish with water where I boiled beet, with a fantastic colour I have always appreciated. I am sorry that a reflection of myself can be seen as the shot was done with the dish on the floor.
The second photo is a simple flower from the garden.
Both photos just to keep exercising the right finger and training the focus.

Flower - Sony Leica 55mm lens f/1.8 lens @f/1.8 - Either I couldn't focus correctly what I doubt, or the quality of this lens is not as good as others I own.

Especially the color where the surface of the beet juice meets the dish!

Shooting the lens wide open at f/1.8 did that, in my opinion. Lens is probably good enough.

Were you looking for a blurred background?

Oh yes. These days I tend to photograph either with shallow depth of field most of the time or at least with a very refined focus points carefully chosen.
It may happen that the lens is good enough and I have moved just a tad after focusing and before clicking.

My wife tells me that I take too long to photograph. Perhaps, but now I carefully look at the aperture, compensation, histogram and ISO. Only then I press the shutter. Or perhaps it's the age... or both !

Thank you for commenting Ted !

    Cheers ! Take care !

    March 30 to April 5

About the magnificent Sony 135 GM

Yesterday I was not sure what the distance switch of the lens was for or, at least I was not quite sure about it's exact function.
After a bit of surfing and reading I came to a conclusion: the switch when positioned at the smaller distance returns a faster and more accurate focusing as the motors has to travel less. Yes, just a guess. But the fact is that it works fine.

I headed to the garden and shot the flower at close distance. I did not measure but the sensor should be a bit after 70cm away from the target. I was not using the crop factor of the camera. Just making a FF shot so at this instance, I was photographing at 135mm

As the week goes by into confinement, I hope to be able to test methodically this switch even if I am not very dedicated to these kind of works...

So, here are two shots. One of the flower perfectly focused and one of myself doing the job.

Even confined to home most of the time (20h-22h/24) we escape for some walks around the area.

Today, I mounted this gorgeous 135mm lens on the 7III

To control the aperture I use the ring on the lens.

    1/1000 f/5.6 ISO 100 + a bit of LR and CC
I consider that no photograph is finished without passing through software for refinement.

Very different scenes but both are excellent.

Another photo from this morning. A very simple one indeed.

This is my first visit to this thread Antonio, but it will not be the last! The flower image certainly makes the point about the quality of the lens.

Most of us are either learning new tricks or improving old ones in regard to our preferred styles, but as your shot in #186 shows, we need not be prisoners!

I look forward to more illustrations of your journey.

Thank you Bill for your comment

Yesterday it was a very nice day, bright and sunny but we went to the marked. Today, it is dull and sad with not much light.
I hope in the afternoon it gets better and we can go out in the fields even though these days can offer nice and beautiful images...

The camera is ready for action !

    Cheers !

    March 30 to April 5

Today in spite of the confinement or because of it, we went to the countryside.
I took one of my fabulous GM lens with me and made a few shots around an abandoned chair in an abandoned farm ( ! ). The weather was changing and this is a quick image among some I still have to select. @ f/1.6

I like the idea of that last image, Antonio, but I wonder about a crop from the bottom and right side?

    From the walk yesterday afternoon.
There are many old and abandoned farms in Setúbal witch have been occupied by buildings while others are just left. It is bad because they were places were agricultural products were produced for the consumption of the city.
Even the water which used to run, is not there anymore.

I think the alternative washing line image looks better to me; but there are probably still several alternatives which could be tried to make slightly different scenes.

The last three look good and you have nicely caught the mood of desolation with those muted colours.

Thank you for commenting Geoff !
In the last one I should have removed the greenish chair witch I didn't see but when processing the photo. I did not opt by removing it in the software...
    Cheers !
