    2020 Project 52 by Antonio Correia - 1rd Quarter

I intend to start my own version of Project 52 but only in 2020
I have created this thread perhaps a bit too early... I don't know.
From today until end of the year, I will write my ideas about what I intend to do.

    Suddenly... I couldn't find 2019 Project 52. Am I missing something ?

    Sorry

Antonio - there is no specific thread for Project 52. Most people do exactly what you have done here and start their own thread, usually in the Nature & Architecture forum (i.e. here) and post weekly shots.

There is a little bit of information about the Project 52 Challenge here, Antonio.

2018 Project 52 - Guidelines, FAQ and Index

It is a personal thing without any firm rules and most people seem to adapt the 'challenge' to something which suits them. It is perfectly acceptable to start or finish your personal challenge at any time but most of us begin the new year with a fresh series of posts. You will find that several people started their 2019 challenge with individual posts last January; and some of us are still going now.

Originally we did consider having just one thread for people to upload images but eventually thought this would become too cumbersome and individual threads would work better. You will be most welcome to start your personal challenge at any time.

    Thank you Geoff !
I read the mentioned information before and hope not to break the flexible rules.
I will drop some line about the ideas - or at least some - that I have about what I would like to do in 2020.
    Cheers !

    2020 Project 52 by Antonio Correia - 1rd Quarter

    I start my Project 52 using a Sony A7 III with a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 bought in June 1974.
The purpose is to use old lenses on modern camera bodies.
All produced photographs are processed to taste. Aperture priority with two apertures: 5.6 and 1.8
I need to fine tune the focus peaking and have a better understanding of it's sensitivity so I can photos with more precision.
The top photo was cross posted here.
To be honest, I am not that satisfied with the second shot.

Yep, Antonio. The second image is not here nor there. The DoF is far too wide.
    Cheers Ole

Nice set, good use of layers on both.

Thank you Ole and John for your comments.
This is a kind of trial period to see how everything goes...
I hope to be able to post many more with several combinations.
This time here is the camera with lens.

This time yes, I like the photograph I made in the morning !
Perhaps I should have done more smoke... mind you, it is the original one here !
    @ f/1.8 !
Cross posted in here. Thanks !

Re: 2020 Project 52 by Antonio Correia - 1rd Quarter

For me, Antonio, the first image works fine but I agree with Ole about the second one. It is difficult to make a really interesting photograph from a length of rusty chain and rope so possibly concentrating closer on the chain and shackles/rope connection might have worked better?

The hand and smoke work well in the third image but maybe there is too much out of focus area on the right side? Possibly a 4 x 5 ratio crop, or even square, to lose some of the right side?

My thoughts are very much along the lines of what Greg has written:

    #1 - Okay image, but needs a bit more work;
#2 - I don't think there is useful image there; there are too many bright distractions in the background; and
#3 - The strongest of the group, but too much material to be effective. A hard crop on the right and another one on the left to focus on the colours and the hand will give you a stronger shot.

Thank you Geoff and Manfred for the comments
Generally speaking I agree with you but let me detail, please
1 - @ Manfred- More work ? This is not enough ? It looks good to me...
    2 - Agree ! Photo to trash ! Absolutely !
    3 - @ Geoff - Bellow two versions: a 4/5 and a 1/1 The first is really a great option. Thank you !
@ Manfred - Agree about too much material/information on the right side of the first version

I think I must get out of my rigid idea of fixed crops...

    Thank you again !
Isn't there a Stick Index for the Projects of 2019 and 2020 ? Or am I just missing it ?

When it comes to digital images, fixed crops are irrelevant. When printing, I tend to stick to more standard crops as custom frames are expensive.

I find that the foreground and the top are more of a distraction than anything else. I also find that the really bright light coming through the openings are distracting.

That is in fact, my main concern. I used to print a lot in A5 as I mentioned somewhere in this forum.

When I compose and frame my shots, I tend to leave enough room on the wide side of the image so I can crop there to print standard sizes. North American paper standards are significantly different from the European ones. I typically use 432mm x 559mm (17" x 22") and 216mm x 279mm (8-1/2" x 11") papers. Canada largely uses the SI measurement system for most everything other than paper, where we continue to use the USA sizes.

For the third image I prefer the 4 x 5 ratio crop which nicely shows off that mysterious and intriguing hand.

We did have a list of Project 52 Challenge participants for 2017 & 2018 but that didn't continue in 2019 when there were fewer members taking on the challenge.

Thank you Geoff for your words.
So, may I correctly think that 2020 Project 52 will not be created ?
If so, no problem as far as I am concerned.
    Cheers !
