    Sony Reduction In Prices

Sony has just reduced the price of the A6600 body by $200 (putting it in a more competitive price range) and has also reduced the prices of their two newer APSC lenses: 16-55mm f/2.8 G and 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3 G OSS which will also make these two lenses more competitive.

In fact, Adorama is packaging an extra generic battery and charger, a SanDisk SD card and a Flashpoint/Godox flash, along with some other miscellaneous accessories with the A6600 for $1,200 USD. Not too bad for a camera which previously cost $1,400 new without the extras...

I want to buy a camera for my wife and one of the candidates was A6600. She's been using my beloved Fuji X100 series camera and she keeps complaining that she can't zoom with it.

But after reading a review about the A6600 and played with it a bit at a shop I'm not so sure anymore. Even at the current price it's still way too pricey compared to its competitors.

As far as new cameras go: the A6100 and A6400 are less expensive but, you need either to purchase the Sony bodies with kit lenses or purchase the body alone and buy a separate lens. You can get used A6000 or A6300 cameras with kit lenses pretty cheaply on eBay. A6000 with kit lens will run $300-$400. A6300 and kit lens will run $500-$600.

I got attracted to the A6600 because it uses the same type of battery as the camera that I use now. That's about it actually. No need for IBIS because Sony zoom lenses for APS-C mostly have optical stabilizer in them.

But at that price I wonder if it would be better to buy a A7III? It's much heavier though, I'm not sure if my wife would want to carry it. Now she's using my Canon G7X (1st gen).

Maybe I'll wait until the A6600's price got reduced further.

I also have the A7iii which I use when I don't need to walk around a lot. The A7iii weighs a bit more than the A6400 (about 22.93 ounces for the A7iii, 14.25 ounces for the A6400 and 16 ounces for the A6600). That means that the A6400 is over a half pound lighter in weight than the full frame A7iii. You can get lighter weight lenses for APSC cameras also. However, I use the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens on both my full frame and crop bodies...

    Re: Sony Reduction In Prices

I am selling my Sony A6500... It is a LOT EASIER to find the shutter count on the Sony than it was on my Canon DSLR cameras, That was a struggle. Picmeta.com will extract the shutter count from the EXIF data of a Sony JPEG image.

The shutter count on this camera is a low 5334. The low count derives from my being a 50/50 Sony/Canon user early on and my shooting the A6500 in tandem with the A6400 later on...

If you would like to find the price for this camera and the accessories which go with it; just send me a PM.
