    I agree with John.
If you open the shadows and modify slightly the level you could get this:

    yalda pomegranate

Nice composition, but your Depht of Field is a bit to short (more visible on my version )

I moved this thread out of the competition thread as is was not placed in either the monthly or one of the ongoing competition threads.

If this was a mistake, I will move it, minus the comments, that are not permitted in the competition threads.

I really like how the leaves and fruit are positioned in the image with a matching shallow depth of field; i like original as well as Jean's version of it

First, thank you for your comment
    According to the homepage
    I thought
Now is the time for monthly competition
    When can I send photos?
Are some specific photographers just invited to compete?
Can all members participate in the competition?

    Re: yalda pomegranate

I agree with John and Jean. In addition to brightening the dark areas and midtones, I would add some contrast (which will automatically add a bit of saturation), dodge around the edges of the pomegranate to lighten the edges specifically, and add a little bit of local contrast. The result is this:

    yalda pomegranate

Concerning depth of field: look at the area that I have circled in red. That area is blurry. It is usually a bad idea to have blurry areas in the foreground (close to the viewer). A narrower aperture and focusing closer would have taken care of this.

A few of my edits go beyond the first things you would learn. However, here is my advice. You didn't ask for it, so I hope you don't mind. This photo and one of your riverside photos show that you have a very "good eye." That means that you can compose very good photos. The next steps after that are to learn more about camera control (for example, depth of field) and postprocessing (the sorts of things that Jean and I did). That's what you need to turn your very good captures into stunning photographs.

    I hope this is helpful.

In my humble opinion, this is a very worthwhile image to comment upon and also some very well thought out comments and suggestions. My little addition is that I really like the original leaves, the lightened ones not as much. To arrive at the best result, I think the original leaves and the lightened fruit. Of course, one needs to see if the light then looks overall. I suspect it would be fine!

    Jim,

Interesting thought. I no longer have the original edited version with the layers, but I did a quick-and dirty revision, darkening the leaves and undoing some of the contrast increase in them. I left the pomegranate as it was in my first edit. That produces this.

Vaez - anyone can enter the competition, subject to the rules of the competition process. To enter, a monthly competition, the image has to be inserted into an existing competition thread, rather than randomly into the competition forum. That way we know if you have entered it into the monthly competition or one of the mini-competitions.
