SoCal: When it rains it snows!

We had a fair bit of rain recently here in SoCal and got lucky with a nice covering of snow in the San Gabriel Mountains.

Yesterday I was armed with more than the usual iPhone (!) and got some nice results, including a pano of several shots.

More rain is coming Monday so hopefully we get another dumping of snow!

Nice images - I noticed a lot of snow on the mountains yesterday as I drove from Escondido to Corona, CA.

It's fun to look at snow while still being comfortable in a short sleeve shirt at 50+ degrees F. (10 degrees C.)

Enjoy while it lasts! Up this way, we have another 3 - 4 months of it. Major winter storm is supposed to hit us tomorrow into Monday morning.

That's right Richard, exposure to snow should be on a voluntary basis!

Manfred, although I'm from NJ (long ago) I still wonder how people deal with long winters...

excellent images; i would like to remove the bunch of ripe fruits on the right top corner since it distracts due to its blurred appearance

Lovely images. I like snow. I like cold. I like being comfortable. Tomorrow it is going to be 42 degrees C (107f) Not nice

I lived in Minnesota for 21 years. There were three seasons there. Last winter, this winter and next winter. Mark Twain once said, "The coldest winter I ever saw was a summer in San Francisco." I think he meant Minnesota. You get used to it.

Agreed - 42°C is not nice. I have experienced temperatures like that and even thinking about moving is challenging.

On the other hand once temperatures drop into the -25°C to -30°C range, it's not particularly comfortable either. Add a bit of wind to that and exposed skin, causing frostbite, can occur in minutes. There is virtually no humidity in the air, so skin gets extremely dry and can crack. We tend to get a week or so of those temperatures every winter.

As for snow looking pretty, it does when it first falls, but in the city with all the traffic, it quickly turns into an ugly gray mass.

Sounds all to familiar. When we first moved to Ottawa almost 40 years ago, I was told that we have "9 months of winter and 3 months of bad sledding". Little did I know that they were right.

That joke appears in various forms for many locations and for different seasons. In Newfoundland, I was told, people say that there are two seasons: winter and July. The joke in Seattle is that "if you can see Mt. Rainier, it's going to rain. If you can't see Mt. Rainier, it's raining."

When I moved to Houston from England, the local seasons, starting with Spring, felt to me like Autumn, Summer, Hell on Earth, then another Summer ... Now that I'm acclimatised, or "acclimaydead" as they say over here, visits to England are accompanied by a big coat.

Sorry about your winters guys! And I also lived in TX for some years, I know all about that heat...

Monday's rain seems to have been cancelled, so I guess I got the snow pix I got!

    beautiful images.
We are below normal for snow pack in our mountains here in WA State (very strange weather year), so ... however, there is supposed to be some good dumpings coming up.

    Happy New Year!

LOL. When we lived in the Bay Area, I did have to wear a coat in July when going to work in San Francisco. It's the drippy cold fog that gets ya.
Nothing like Indiana winters though, with those minus 60 winters.

The one year I visited SF the weather was sunny and 75F in September, I lucked out on getting some foggy weather photographs.
