I agree with Nandakuma the increased contrast would created a bit of mystery or drama to the image.

I also agree—a very nice image, but it could do with some tonality adjustments. However, I would do them locally rather than globally because the platform edge is already high contrast. In fact, I’d play with lowering contrast a bit in that area.

I have already made a number of local adjustments. I normally prefer high contrast scenes but they didn't seem to suit this image. I will have another go and produce a more contrasty one to compare.

Peter - let me disagree with the others. Scenes with a lot of steam, fog or smoke do not work as high contrast. I might be tempted to go the other way here and knock down the shadows and highlights a bit more. While the steam is localized, those highlights and deep shadows don't seem to fit.
