    Hot rods from Port fairy

We have just spent seven days in Port Fairy a town about three and a half hours drive west of Melbourne. The town has been voted 'most livable town in the world.'

They had a hot rod event whilst we were there and I like to share a few images of the hot rods. C&C most welcome

Nice Series Ole, well seen and photographed. I spent a couple of nights at Port Fairy in 2010, thanks for reminding me of a pleasant trip.

Vroom, vroom ! I could be tempted by the one in the first image !

However, is it just my eyes or is the rear wheel oval ? The front wheel seems to be round, so the image is not stretched - is that lens distortion ?

Good shots Ole, although I find the crops rather tight, especially in front of the cars (giving them visual space to move into), but I understand the challenges in doing that in the environment you were shooting in.

Brings back memories - I had an Oldsmobile exactly like the second image except that mine was blue and white...

    Great cars.

It would seem that some blurring has been applied in PP. Perhaps a more effective separation of subject and surroundings might be achieved also by some tonal adjustments to darken the background relative to the car.

I did apply gaussian blur which I prefer. I may have overdone it though.

It is quite noticeable on picture number 2, which is my favourite as it happens !

The Gaussian blur is a good adjustment but additionally I had something like this in mind, e.g. -

    Hot rods from Port fairy

    (This is my favourite car!)

Nice series of shots, particularly for car-nuts like me. But I agree with David, above in post #4, about the rear wheel on the Cobra. Actually, the entire body from the wind-shield on back is elongated, perhaps done deliberately to make it appear as if at speed. One could wish for a cleaner background so the car's immaculate details would be more discernable. I wonder if it's an original Cobra or one of the many copies now available.

    Thanks for sharing.

The problem with the Gaussian blur is that it usually looks like you have applied it, rather than having the effect of depth of field, where the transition from sharp to less sharp parts of the image are gradual.

Rather than a Gaussian blur, I wonder if applying a motion blur to the background in addition to the motion blur that Philip has applied to the wheels and tires in #11 might not give a more "realistic" look?
