    West coast

The Gironde estuary near Royan looking west at sunset :

    West coast

The huts on stilts are fishing platforms called Carrelets (from the french word for square : carré) because of the square nets that are lowered into the water.

Well seen and nicely photographed, David.

I wonder if opening up the shadows a bit might be worth considering? This is a back-lit scene and in my experience doing that often ends up making the image stronger.

I do like this image and I agree with Manfred about opening up the shadows - just a tad though.

@Manfred : thanks for the feedback. It looks like I tend to darker images than you (see comment on "Sandrine" !) I have already lightened the shadows quite a bit, but as with the other image, perhaps not enough...

I wonder if your computer screen is set too bright?

This is a very common issue with people who view images. We tend to work in bright workspaces (office) and turn up the screen brightness. The general recommendations for viewing photographic images is that the area where images are viewed should be no brighter than 70 lux and screen output should be in the 80 - 120 candela / square meter range. Straight out of the box, computer screens are often running in the 200 - 400 candela / square meter range.

When I have a bit more time, I want to drill down on your "Sandrene" image a bit further to explain a few things that I have picked up during the formal (classroom) photography training I have gone through.

Great capture and concerning Manfred's suggestion I find it never hurts to try.
