    Stella and her Bailey Chair

You probably never heard of a Bailey Chair... I hadn't either until we received Stella, an eleven month old Maltipoo (Poodle + Maltese mix)...

    Stella and her Bailey Chair

Stella has a condition called Mega Esophagus which causes this pup to regurgitate her food unless she is positioned straight-up while eating and held that way for 20-minutes after eating. That would mean holding Stella while she eats and for the 20-minutes after. Enter the Bailey Chair...

The Bailey Chair is a box-like device which will comfortably hold Stella erect while she is eating (the part of the chair on which her paws are resting can be replaced with a bowl holder)... So far so good! She has been eating Judy's special meatballs which she loves, while positioned in her chair with no regurgitation...

Fascinating. I'd never heard of Mega Esophagus and the way that the condition can be treated. Is she quite happy being put in that position to eat? She certainly seems quite content in the last picture. Good images, Richard.

She is very happy when she is being placed in the chair (because she knows she is going to eat). She seems content after the meal for the 20-minutes to half-hour she is kept upright. In fact she has fallen asleep at times.

The "meatballs" are made of freeze dried beef and oak-meal flakes, held together with peanut butter. Quite nourishing and she loves them...
