Is Ed wrong again? Curious readers want to know!

Foveon X3 is the next generation of silicone CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Sensor) technology and is quite tempting. However, it may be irrelevant. As Bayer CMOS sensors approach 61 and 100 million photosites and prices per pixel fall, the process may become irrelevant in the face of the product. My Nikon D810 produces an quite acceptable 20 x 30 inch image with 36 megapixels. The existing Sony Alpha 7R IV and anticipated Nikon (Z8 ?) FX full frame 61 megapixel cameras will produce a 24 x 36 image to die for. The math: 9504 x 6336 / 300 pixels per inch = 31 X 21 printed inches…close enough. So future megapixels however derived will give us exceptional results and a cake is a cake mixed by one hand or three.

Foveon X3 is not the "next generation". Foveon X3 started around 2002, eighteen years ago. Foveon versus Bayer discussions are equally old and I won't be partaking in another one here. I would, however, be happy to assist with any misunderstandings about Foveon sensors.

    Sorry Ed.

P.S. tons of Foveon sensor info on my website here - feel free to browse ...

There is no question that Ed is wrong.

Silicone is a polymer that has all kinds of uses, but making CMOS chips is not one of them. I suspect you meant silicon; nicely said, a very pure form of sand, which is used in semiconductor fabrication....

Yes, that is why I edited Ed's quote in my post #2.

Thank you, I stand corrected. Actually I sit corrected. I will check out your site.
