Foveon X3 is the next generation of silicone CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Sensor) technology and is quite tempting. However, it may be irrelevant. As Bayer CMOS sensors approach 61 and 100 million photosites and prices per pixel fall, the process may become irrelevant in the face of the product. My Nikon D810 produces an quite acceptable 20 x 30 inch image with 36 megapixels. The existing Sony Alpha 7R IV and anticipated Nikon (Z8 ?) FX full frame 61 megapixel cameras will produce a 24 x 36 image to die for. The math: 9504 x 6336 / 300 pixels per inch = 31 X 21 printed inches…close enough. So future megapixels however derived will give us exceptional results and a cake is a cake mixed by one hand or three.
