Takahe birds are really rare - there are about 300 left on the planet. Here an adolescent (Right) shares some food with his younger sibling. Younger birds have muted colours and some brown feathers that change colour as they get older to beautiful iridescent blues and turquoise: the adolescent is just beginning that process. The adults have a pronounced red bony crest that this fellow is yet to develop. It is common for the older siblings to share minding duties with the parents.

A harbour seal chasing a fish. It missed the fish but lucked out when it was fed fish from the wharf by a local fishery! Which goes to prove, it's not what you know, it's who you know...
