Anyone use Snapfish for processing

A local supermarket chain is sponsoring a game with prizes from a donut to a million dollars. I have already won the donut and really don't expect to win any big money. But, since it is free to play and it is where I shop anyway, what the heck - I play the game.

I did win one prize which is decent, a free 20-inch x 30-inch photo print from Snapfish. I have never used Snapfish for printing but the price (zero U.S. Dollars) is right and I think that I might get this image printed...



It will give me an idea if I want to use that company for large prints or not...

I'll be curious to see what your experience is. I only use labs for things that I can't print myself. So far, I have only used Bay Photo sand Printique (nee AdoramaPix, for books), although I have been told repeatedly that White House Custom Color is in the same league. I've stayed away from the mass-market labs.

Same company, as I understand it. Shutterfly bought Snapfish a couple of months ago and is integrating the two.

I get the impression that they are essentially providing the same type of service that drug store photofinishing did a generation ago. Expect decent, but not outstanding results. That being said, if you send in a highly polished image, you should get a pretty decent product back from them. I have read that they use Xerox and HP digital presses (i.e. high speed laser printers) and Fuji chromogenic (i.e. traditional silver halide colour process exposed digitally) machines. None of these are going to produce the quality of a high end inkjet print, but will certainly be capable of decent quality.

Oh Well - can't beat the price for this print... Whether I get any more done from that company depends on how well I like the free print and how much successive prints will cost...
