    Social Distancing

Our evening news anchors have, in the past, sat quite close to each other. Not anymore...

My idea of social distancing is fly fishing. We have a blue ribbon trout stream that goes through our subdivision and I have access to two stretches of private water on ranches in the area. The chance of seeing another human are slim to none.

You're lucky to have that option. Even in my suburban area, we can come close enough for now by going to parks, etc. Even on the nearest rails-to-trails trail, which was predictably packed this weekend with people desperate to keep out, it was trivially easy to stay more than 6 feet from other people. However, in more densely populated areas than yours where it has gotten really bad, people have been given shelter-in-place orders. this one is from Santa Clara County, CA (capitals in the original):

ALL INDIVIDUALS LIVING IN THE COUNTY TO SHELTER AT THEIR PLACE OF RESIDENCE EXCEPT THAT THEY MAY LEAVE TO PROVIDE OR RECEIVE CERTAIN ESSENTIAL SERVICES OR ENGAGE IN CERTAIN ESSENTIAL ACTIVITIES AND WORK FOR ESSENTIAL BUSINESSES AND GOVERNMENTAL SERVICES
This hasn't yet happened here, but it may well happen, and if it does, it will be harder to bear. My wife and I are already doing all of that, with one very big exception: we go out every day, even if it is just for a walk. Still, given this threat, we will do what we have to do.

    I can empathize.
I went to take one of our dogs out yesterday to a hike on Whidbey and the parking lot was full. Decided to find another trail, and ran into only one other person.

Given we are the epicenter of the US spread, it's pretty difficult.
Having a mom in memory care that I visited daily and sometimes twice, that I can no longer see, is very stressful... even if the right thing to do.

Hope everyone is hanging in there, we will get through this.

My thoughts are with you and everyone else in the same situation. Very tough and uncertain months ahead. I called in on an older single lady today (spoke from a distance) that I see on my street walk with the dogs. I offered to get her food/shopping supplies if she needed them. She was very grateful. I didnt even know her name until today.

I urge anyone who can think of someone who lives near them that could struggle in the current environment to offer help if you can.

Our local neighborhood online group has had several people offer the same kindness as Peter... Tragic incidents such as COVID-19 tend to bring out the best and worst in people... Anyone guess who is a candidate for the worst?

Sharon, that has to be stressful. We'll keep you and your mother in our prayers.

Thank you so much. For people like you humanity still has an example. I hope everything ends soon.

Many aged, and others. Younger people are also dying, and I've heard it impacts children pretty terribly.
Please remain safe and distant out there. The US seems to be behind other countries in terms of responding, but seems governors are stepping it up.

    Take care.

I certainly don't even have to guess LOL. But I shall leave it out of this post.

This pandemic could not have come at a worse time.

Sadly and frustratingly, our options for going outside are now severely limited. Yep, bad timing...

As of today Victoria, Australia is shutting down for tree weeks, leaving only essential services operating.

Trev, our thoughts are with you.

The United States has Trump to contend with.

NZ is going into at least four weeks of total lock-down, starting Wednesday. Lots of time to do admin tasks at home and study, I guess...
