Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi everyone,
I am Piet from South Africa have just joined CiC. Photography is a serious hobby for me, but I only made two years ago the switch to digital. My main interest is in bird photography, which I do since 1973. Although I don't always have the time to spend on my hobby, I am staying in an area with lot of oppertunities for bird photography.
The past two years I had learned a lot of digital photography on CiC's website and I am looking forward to my stay here.
Piet

Howdy ! Actually we don't normally greet someone with "Howdy" in Colorado...but it can be a nice conversation starter. I live in Denver which is a great place to live and visit. I've posted a couple of pictures of Mountain Goats which live on Mount Evans (MSL 14,231 ft.) only 60 miles from my front door. They are protected in a national forest and are quite happy to have their photographs taken. I guess the same can be said for the shore birds on the Gulf of Mexico, west of Florida. I visit there several times a year. Now I'm interested in finding some great locations to photograph people and culture. I'm interested in suggestions but I guess my primary reason to sign up on this site is to learn more about the techniques of good photography. ( I loaded a few of my photos into an Album )

Hey everyone. My name is Alan Hood and I just joined CiC today. This website got me so interesting and I'm hoping to learn a lot. Also, I'm willing to share my very little knowledge, hoping it will be useful to somebody. I'm interesting in landscaping, and wanted to do animals and macro. But I got no special lens for my camera. I'm using Pentax K-X with a stock 18-55mm. I would need some of your help on which len would be best for macro such as looks close to the flowers and a tele lens for animals.
Thanks and it's nice to meet y'all.

Hi Piet,
Welcome to CiC :)
Hope we'll see some of your bird shots shortly. What's your favourite lens for the bird shots?

Hi Jerry,
Welcome to CiC :)
You've got some nice shots to shart off with in your first album -- do you need a hand to help you display them inline in posts here?

Hi Alan,
Great to have you with us :)
If you'd like some input on lenses, just pop a question into a new thread in the general forum, and I'm sure we'll be able to help. I'm not too familiar with a Pentax K-X - can you tell us a little more about it's basic specs?
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hello Colin, I'm glad to be part of this CiC forum. Also, I wanted to let you all know that I born and raise of being deaf. Please, excuse my English because it isn't my first language. I'm also learning Spanish language for beginner. So, I mostly use sign language. Anyway, back to Pentax topic.

Hi Alan,
Thanks for the reply. Your English seems just fine - we have people here from all over the world; and for many English is a 2nd language -- it's seldom a problem (we occasionally tweak a few words on rare occasions where something may sound offensive, but was meant to be innocent, but most of the time everything is just fine) :)
I'm guessing that being deaf would probably have very little impact on your photography - is that the case?
The Pentax sounds capable enough - possibly the only "downside" (and many other places I assume) is that the majority of users are using Canon or Nikon and thus not many will be familiar with models or characteristics of things like lenses specific to the camera, but apart from that, all the general principles remain exactly the same.
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
That's good to hear that I'm not the only one with bad english. Being deaf pretty sure impact my photography in a good way. Since I got in college at RIT (Rochester Institute of Technology) and took Photography course, it got me hooked. But there're enough deaf peoples at RIT wanted to be a photography as well.
It's true that Pentax isn't popular as Canon/Nikon. But Pentax suit me well and I really like 'em better than Rebel XSi that I used. I had nothing to do against Nikon and Canon. I know there are many DSLR brand that are not popular as Nikon/Canon, but they would still be good camera.
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi all,
I found this site whilst looking for a polariser for my Fuji Finepix S1500, which I have had just short of 12 months. Despite my 'messing' with it, and it's various controls my photography does not seem to be imrpoving much. So I took on board a couple of suggestions from friends, family, and a professional photographer friend and am once again trying to improve my shots.
As an HGV driver I get around the country quite a bit, and try to record some of the scenes I see. I also enjoy birdwatching and nature, and my garden is a haven with several bird feeders attracting a wide variety of avian visitors.
I'm looking to make friends, to learn how to use my camera's full potential and improve my photography.
Thats all for now...
Kaz
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi Kaz and welcome to the world of CiC. This is the best place I know of on the interwebs to get honest, but kind critique of your images. I have learnt a heap from being here in the short time since I joined, not only from comments on my own images, but also from comments on others.
We would love to see some of what you are doing. If you can't find a thread that suits what you want to show us, go right ahead and start a new one. :)

Hi Kaz,
Great intro post! :)
What's HGV? (Pardon my ignorance).
Best way to improve your photography is to post a shot here (just sing out if you need help with that) - get some feedback - then go and apply it; there's not much we can't help with here - and in many ways people often only need to change 2 or 3 things to get a massive difference.
So don't be shy!
PS: Welcome to CiC :)

Hello, I am johngrzz and I live in Southern California. The weather has been delightful the last couple of weeks. I have been teaching photography at Moorpark College for many years. I have found many useful answers to questions in the "techniques" and "tutorials." This is a wonderful site. Thank you.

How'd you come up with Celina20 for an alias?

Hi All, This is Rajiv from the US.
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi, I like Dr Who as well, I think. Welcome to the place. :)
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi Colin,
Thanks for the welcome.
My lens for bird photography is the Nikon 200-400mm on the D300.
I have just opened an album (Piet's Bird Album), but haven't uploaded any images yet. What size for the images in an album do you guys recommend? 200x300 pix or is that to small?
Piet
