Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members

    Hello all.

I’ve been lurking the last few months, so I figured it was time to post.

I can’t remember how I wondered upon this web site, but I’m surely glad I did.

The Cic gallery is, in a word, incredible. Every image is , I believe, an artistic masterpiece. I am openly envious of the skill and artistry involved in creating such images (I am particularly taken by Bodley’s Court).

Also, I truly am appreciative of the level of civility and support provided by all involved with the forums. It’s quite refreshing to experience such a helpful friendly environment (especially in comparison to MANY other so-called open help forums).

    So here’s my info.

Started taking snapshots around 1970 with an old (new at the time) Kodak X-35 Instamatic (anybody remember these?). A couple of years late l received an enlarger and other necessities as a gift, and started down the path of the chemical darkroom. It wasn’t until college, in 1980, that I obtained my first SLR (Canon TLB). After graduating (Aerospace Engineering) I ‘got into’ processing color negatives and transparencies (talk about limited dynamic range: CIBACHROME!). At one time I had a little bit of 35mm, medium format (6X6 & 6X7), and large format (4X5) stuff. Believe it or not, I gave away ALL of my darkroom equipment and cameras around the year 2000, after reading an article about the CAMEDIA C-2000.

I currently own an EOS 400D and EF-S 18-55 kit lens ( I have 4 kids, one starting college; lens money is hard to come by .
With respect to my skill level: I believe the phrase is ‘My equipment is not my limiting factor”.

    Once again thanks to all.

@Hans, hello to you, welcome. I'm sure I'm not on my own when I say I'd like to see more pictures taken with the tilt and shift, especially of towns and cities, rendering them "model-like"

@stopwalve, welcome to you. I don't think you are on your own in the lurking department! It was one of the main reasons for this thread; people are a little bit intimidated by the talent here they are nervous of "piping up" so to speak. I wanted a thread that would provide a "preview" of the friendliness and willingness to help from all the established members. It is after all the Welcome thread!

    Welcome stopwalve,

Good intro, glad you took the time to post and join the community properly.
Aircraft engineering was one direction I very nearly took upon leaving school, but I went into telecommunications instead. Although to this day I have a bookshelf full of aircraft books.
Done my time with a dim green light and developer/fixer stained fingers too.

The tutorials, along with Sean's beautiful images, were what brought me here.

One small favour, do you have a first name we can use?
A real name always seems better than the username when replying to people.

    Thanks,

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members

Thanks Mark (the newest Mark that is), any questions, just ask away.

And "Hi" to Hans too, no worries; your study is much tidier than mine
I too look forward to seeing more of the TS-E results (in the other thread).

... and just so he's not feeling left out; Hi to chelseablue Mark!
I won't say 'older Mark' because 1) he isn't older than me, and 2) he's bigger than me

    Regards,

Dave, I've never felt left out here, mate! That's the point of the whole site I think.

    I'd disagree. I like saturation.

    @ stopwalve

    Hi Mark,

A big welcome from me too. By the way, did you intend to have "stopwalve" for a username, or were you meaning "stopvalve"? (if the latter, we can change it for you).

Good to have another "aviation sorts" on board - I spent 7 years in the military (aviation) and a few more privately flying singles and light twins - and yes, I still weep a tear or two when I watch some of the Blue Angels footage I've managed to lay my hands on - I've got a real soft spot for F/A-18's - although unfortunately, the model on top of my couch is about as close to one as I'm ever likely to get

Anyway - great to have you with us - just sing out if we can help with anything.

Perhaps what we need is a sign that says "Welcome to the Cambridge in Colour Forums - the Friendly, Helpful Forums" (tm)!

Hello! My name is Mark Seawell. I'm a retired Air Force guy living in Germany. I'm very new to the photography scene. My "day" job is computers so I don't mind technical stuff. I've always had a deep appreciation of nature and this beautiful world I'm living in. Recently, I decided to take things to the next level and start using this Panasonic Lumix FZ28 to bring the world a little closer. I would appreciate any and all advice for taking pictures that move people. Once I dive into something I want to know how to make it all come together. Hopefully with some persistence, my technical background and advice from the experts her at this forum, I can produce something worth seeing.

    Another Mark!

Hi Mark - great to have another ex "Military Man" with us. I have to admit to being jealous of those lucky enough to be retired though!

We're all here to help - so be sure to let us know if there's anything we can do for you.

Thanks! I live close to the kaiserslautern area in Germany. Don't be too jealous! I have 3 teenagers, one in college and another going next year. Believe me, I'm still working! LOL!

I do appreciate the kind words and look forward to learning. When I awoke this morning it had snowed lightly and for the first time in two weeks I could see the sky. I grabbed the camera and took some shots on the way to work. Beautiful pink clouds and the full moon hovering in the background with snow on the fields. I really couldn't do it justice....

    Hi Colin.
Many thanks to you and every one else for the warm welcome. Yes, the aerospace industry has been interesting, and pretty good to me. The Harrier has always been one of my favs. But you just can’t beat putting 18,000 pounds of ordinance on target, ala Super-Hornet.

stopwalve is indeed the correct(?) spelling. I'll award one (1) smilely face to anyone who can figure the reference/origin of the name. Believe it or not, I have had someone previously figure it out (without clues).

    Hello Ajith.
Actually I don’t have a posted gallery. I suppose I should do so one day. However, I’m not sure ‘surprise’ would be the correct term to use; perhaps ‘mild amusement’

Yeah - isn't it funny haw the Somalian pirates never seem to attack aircraft carriers - wonder why?

Well I'm not too bright - so I'm going to give up! Even google didn't help me!
