Hi Pete,
We can't be that far apart :)
What do you shoot with?
Here's last times Day 1 PAD post which explains things a bit more - but there will be a more up-to-date one on Friday (1st October) far more relevant to this time.

Hi there, I'm Michael :)
I have been watching mum, (Kay), for a while on this site and have noticed how fantastic it is for budding photographers.
And so, she has encouraged me to join because of my interest in photography.
I use a Panasonic Lumix Tough compact camera, and look forward to posting some shots :)

Hello everyone,
I'm new to your site but everything I read is so far quite interesting and I'm looking foward to exchange ideas and techniques with the readers. I own a Canon 7d and a few lens mostly basic ones (wide angle, macro and zoom lens). I take mostly wildlife and landscape also night shot, use to be into sports action but less nowaday. I like to share techniques and always happy if a can help. Been in this hobby for a little more than 20 years.
Looking foward

Hi Michael,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, we look forward to seeing some shots from you - I assume 'Mum' will show you where, but obviously, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
At least with a Tough you don't need to worry too much and can take it to places where people wouldn't risk a DSLR, so you can use that to your advantage and get some good angles perhaps, especially if you're a sporty person (althought I guess it depends on the sport ;) ).
Best regards,

Hi Carl,
Sounds like a good mix of subjects there, similar to my own, although I rarely do landscape, but I hope to see some of yours soon.
There's help on posting images here if needed;

Hi Dave,
I'm in Bourne End and often cycle to Windsor for a coffee at the Chocolate Theatre Cafe...near the Eton foot bridge? I've got a V LUX 1 and a Digilux 2...in it's leather case the Dig 2 looks like an old 35mm camera which can be useful. Still not confident :o about uploading photos etc. but can always ask the friendly people on CIC...

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi all,
I have always been interested in travelling and capturing the moments in camera. I always wanted to take my hobby to next level and think the time has come. I want to purchase a Digital SLR and an looking all over the net to find the best entry level. My budget is no over $800 or Around Rs.40,000. I would want to include a pair of lense in this budget. I like the Canon 1000D and 500D from Canon's range and considering Nikon D5000. I am absolutely new to photography so dont know much of the technical details. I heard that Nikon suites Indian climate and nikkor lenses are more widely available and price is also less than Canon.
Please help me in the final verdict.
Canon or Nikon

Hello Rene. I've got a Rebel XS (known as the 1000D in the UK) too. Have only had it a few weeks, and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it's functions.
To be honest, as a beginner dSLR I think it's fine....composition of the picture is the first thing to master anyway :)

Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hi,
I'm 70 years old (next month), living in Georgia, USA. I have retired three times, and for the last few years have been reacquainting myself with my extended family in Georgia, Connecticut, Florida, and California. I have always enjoyed photography, and have produced several family photo albums for different sets of relatives. I have a Nikon N90S film camera which I no longer use, and a Nikon D700 digital camera which rarely leaves my side. Each time I have replaced my camera with a newer camera I have passed the used camera kits (camera, lenses, bags, batteries, memory cards, etc.) to a relative or a youngster who has an interest in photography. My last camera was a Nikon D70, and my niece in Florida absolutely loves it. Although I love taking photographs, I have never been very good at it--I have no artistic qualities in my genes. My photo albums are a big hit and the few wedding albums I've labored over were not too bad, but my audience was always a bit biased (free albums of their families or weddings). I've been a subscriber to several photo magazines, and enjoy reading them; however, over the years I've settled on two magazines, and it's about to become just one magazine--Britain's Digital Photo magazine--clearly the very best photo magazine in print. I'll probably also subscribe to Practical Photography very soon.

Hi Jordan,
Welcome to CiC - it's great to have you with us :)
Yes - you can upload images here ... just click on "Community" and then "My Albums", and follow your nose from there. To be honest, I'm not sure if there is a minimum post requirement on user albums, so if it's not there at the moment, it should be after 5 or 10 posts.
I have my own studio, but it might be a little far for you to travel!
If you need any help, just start a new thread and we'll get right on to it for you.

Hi John,
Great to have you with us. I'm 50 this month, so I take my hat off to you in making it (almost) to 70!
I have to confess to being somewhat disillusioned with photography magazines; 100% of their content seems to be either product advertising, or "learn the secrets of the pros / learn to shoot like a pro in just 10 minutes" type hyperbole. One of the very best magazines that I have discovered though (and it's free) can be found at ... http://www.pbase.com/magazine.
Hope you'll be a regular contributer here.
