Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hello everyone,
My name is Rainer. I am located in Sunbury / Australia (about 45 km north of Melbourne).
I am fairly new in photography and I have some questions.
Currently I am using a P & S (Nikon Coolpix S 210). I want to get serious about photography. After some research I found the Sony SLT a 55. This camera is very appealing to me. Does someone have experience with that camera and if so could you please let me know? Thanks so far.:)
The next question is. Photography can get quite costly and I was wondering, if there are ways to earn money from photography ( appart from microstock agencies)?
Only two days ago I found CIC and I am very happy about the information you get and the help from heaps of nice people. i really like this forum.:D
Thank you all for your help
Best regards
Rainer :)

Hello everyone, My name is James. I live in Townsend, Delaware. I'm 63 years old and have been taking pictures since I was 10. I got my first DSLR about 2 years and am finding what photography is all about. You are never to old to learn something new.

I started in photography when about 14-15 years old (a long, long time ago), with an Argus C-3. Built my own darkroom out of a non-used coal bin, and made an enlarger from an old Kodak "Pocket Camera." I've sort of collected old 35 mm and 120 cameras. Took most of my shots with Nikon F3 and F4 and then a 8008. After I retire in 1998, I started into painting--first with watercolor, and now everything except oils. From that time up to about a year or two ago, I used photography (now digital, Olympus D500L, then a C-750, which I rarely use now. Then about a year ago I got a Canon PS, D10 to carry with me all the time and started in taking a picture every day. This led to more interest in photography beyond just documenting my paintings and reference photos. I still have thousands of slides (I never throw anything away) and I'm trying to scan some of the good ones into digital format before they totally are unusable.
Some of my stuff can be seen in a couple places--mostly photography on
http://my.opera.com/Blackcalla. I have several albums there (used also for keeping updated with my son (Tim) in California and use the blog for updating my experimental painting works. My art website is
http://merleplaggeart.com. I've rambled enough--back to reading and catching up.
Hi Merle,
Welcome to the group!
Of all the cameras you collected which ones do you use most often?

Hi John -- I was just going over my first post and forgot the most important camera. Recently acquired a real DSLR--a Nikon D90 with 70-300 mm VR lens that I'm still learning to use. It's so much different than film SLR's. That and the Canon D10 are my mainstays now. I always carry the Canon with me.
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
Hello, I live is Spain and had my first SLR in 1979
I would like to have more time for this hobby
Regards

Merle,
I am going to tell you now, you are not going to make many friends on this sight being a Canon/Nikon enthusiast. So make up your mind and choose one or the other.:)

Good Morning!
My name is Emri and have recently taken up photography as a hobby. I love it as I am also an artist. At the moment photography has taken the place of my painting and writing, because I am able to tell a story with one picture and a click of a button.
Hope to get some constructive critisism on some of my photographs on the site!

Welcome Emri and we at CiC have a passion for Africa so we look forward to seeing your images. There must be thousands of stories to tell.
Re: Introduce Yourself & Welcome Other Members (2)
I am retired (very!) and I have always hankered after a really good camera. Unfortunately finances never reached a point where I could justify the expense and the dream was never realised until now. I recently bought myself a Panasonic Lumix G2 which is stretching my grey cells to bursting point. The manual is as useless as a very, very useless thing indeed so I am putting a wet towel round my head and getting acquainted with apertures, shutter speeds, ISO, metering, etc etc etc. I have signed up for a local eduction authority evening course; first class tonight, so i am looking forward to beginning to get the best out of my new pride and joy.

Welcome to the CiC forums Emri,
What is it they say; "a picture is worth a thousand words"?
Not sure mine are, and I tend to write a thousands words when half a dozen will do - or so I'm told, not that I believe them ;)

If you are looking for immediate feedback, you will need to post pictures in a Comments and Critique forum - I only mention this as you posted two in the Close Up competition today and they probably will not get commented upon until after voting has closed (in about 2 weeks), if then, as you didn't mention it in the post. But don't worry, by all means post those, or different pictures, in a C&C forum like Nature and Architecture, or (if the subject suits it) the People and Pets forum.
Cheers,

Hi John,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me.
Please don't be shy asking questions here, there's no such thing as a stupid question - manuals don't suit everyone, as I know.
Have you found the tutorials here at CiC?
You should find they help with understanding things.
Hope the class went well,

Yeah, I know, but when Nikon comes out with a waterproof/shockproof/freezeproof P&S I'll switch over to that one. :) The only real cameras like that out are the Pentax Optio, and the Canon D10. I'll admit there's lots of things I can't do with the D10, but it's there when out in the rain, snow or swimming or canoeing. So, I guess, I'll just have to take the ribbing. Thanks for the advice.

Hi "scorpio",
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have you join us.
Worry not; you have this in exactly the right section :)
What sort of pictures do you enjoy taking the most?
btw, it would be nice if you could supply a first name as it's always easier conversing as you would in person, thanks.
Best regards,
