Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi, my name is Debbie and I found this site by searching for photography info. I'm not new to using a camera but "learning" to use one, I'd say I'm at stage 1 :o I love this site, it's very helpful to a beginning photographer wannabe! I hope to learn much more by using the forums and getting to know all of you. This seems like a nice place to learn and I have to say the folks here seem to be the ones to learn from. All the photos I've seen are just absolutely beautiful! I'm embarrassed to say that I do not have a "REAL" camera yet. I use my Canon PowerShot only but I'm ready to advance and looking for suggestions and pointers on best choices to start with and things of this nature. I told ya, I'm really just beginning to advance in my photography hobby and would really like to make it more than just a hobby, if I get so lucky. I'm in the U.S., East Tennessee. Very happy to be here and very happy to meet all you talented and friendly folks.:) I enjoy trying to capture the beauty in nature in my everyday life.

I've always wanted to take up photography, so my family bought me a Canon EOS 500D for my 40th birthday. I'm a bit overwhelmed by it, as I am a complete novice. I found this site while looking on the internet for help and was impressed with the tutorials (and the pictures!).
Any advice and pointers on where to start would be most welcome!
Cheers.
Hi Paul, and welcome to CiC. It can be a bit daunting taking up photography, but there is plenty of help available here. Just ask!

Don't be.
Firstly - Hello and welcome. Great to have you sign up here. Hopefully you'll enjoy it. Check out Rob's welcome post at the top of this list. It will help you get started on using CiC the way you want to.
Secondly - You don't have to have all the bells and whistles versions of cameras to start learning about the fundamentals of exposure and composition. Yes, those cameras open up more options for you as your interests develop. But there's an awful lot you can do with the Powershot. So, jump in here. Ask lots of questions. And post up some of your images.

Welcome. Have you got a real name (well obviously you do, but you know what i mean) that we can use. You can edit your profile and insert your real name so that it appears alongside in each of your posts. As you'll have seen, the vast majority of us operate on real names on the forum.
Hopefully CiC can help with the learning process.

Firstly, welcome to what is, I think, the most friendly and constructive 'online club' in the photography business. You'll find there are a number of people on here who are very experienced in macro work and will be more than happy to be involved in discussions and share knowledge and experience. You've found the right place to support your learning. Hope you enjoy it.

Glad to have you on board and welcome.
With that sort of portfolio of work, I think you might be in demand for advise and guidance from a lot of us on here. As you wrote, this is a pretty special community - with a very definite focus on learning and on supporting others. It's about stretching ourselves so that, together, we can all see improvements in our work.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello,
Most of my photography has been this year, and mostly semi-macro. The majority are of flowers and plants. (I haven't uploaded any because my computer is RMA)
I am a self taught graphic designer, and image post processor. I use UFRaw for raw processing, GIMP for editing, Hugin for panorama stiching, Phatch for batch processing and EXIF restoration, Blender for 3D effects, and Scribus for page and print layout; none of which cost anything. There is a reason for the no cost programs, that is that I don't have money to spend on the programs and I have not found the pay-for ones significantly better.

Hi I'm John from Sunderland and fairly new to digital photography My camera is a Sony 300. Had a look at the November competition and there's some great pics there. Have a lot to learn if I'm going to reach that standard. John

Hello John and welcome to the CiC forums site.

You can post to 1024px long-side. They get rescaled to 700px here for normal viewing, but you can do a 'view image' from your browser which shows the image at up to 1024px in a new window. Try it in the test upload thread again, if you want to see.

Hi, I am Laura from Caracas, Venezuela. I take photos since I was 12, when my father gave me a camera. But It was until now (many, many years after :D) that I started to take the photography seriously. I like portraits and I have taken some photography courses. I still have to figure out some technical problems and I have found this website very interesting and with very good explanations.:)
