Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi everyone, I am Dave Williams from Worcestershire. I am returning to photography after a 15 year lay off, I was a keen darkroom worker and had most pieces of equipment you could think of. I have recently bought myself a Lumix FZ45, a secondhand Olympus E420 which has been converted for infrared and I also have a small fujipix pocket camera. I have also bought adobe photoshop cs5 and lightroom, both of these I have yet to try out but envisage a lot of time to get used to them. I am a keen artist painting in mainly watercolour. I enjoy the occasional game of golf and am a keen bowler.
Photography, well I will take photographs of anything, but in my darkroom days my favourite was infrared.
Look forward to learning a lot from those of you that are experienced photographers.

Welcome to CiC. As well as, hopefully, you learning from the knowledge and experience on here, I suspect you will have much to contribute to help and support others. Interesting what you say about painting. We had a discussion a few days ago about the notion of photographers doing an art course in order to gain a btter understanding of image-making.
Please make sure you read post #1 which will help you get started

Welcome on board CiC. I hope you've already found out that this is a place (the tutorials and techniques pages and the fora) where people are committed to supporting others and where we all continuously learn.
Look forward to seeing some of you work.

Good day everyone!
My name is Janine and I am very much an amateur in the world of photography! I am amazed at the pics I have seen on this site and hope to eventually gain the courage to post some of my own.
I enjoy viewing and taking pictures of people, but look forward to expanding into other areas of photography.
I forsee this site providing great fun and great learning opportunities for an amateur like myself.
Another new CIC member,
Janine

Hi All, I just registered under my artist name 'Halfaboy'. Recently I came across this site and I found (almost) everything I always wanted to know about fotography. However, this does not mean that I understand this.
I am from Europe but live in the Far East. As I finished working some years ago I have a nice opportunity to travel around in the area. During these trips through i.e. Loas, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam I'm making loads of pictures with my cameras. Usually I take picyures with my Nikon D90 with a 18-105 mm lens.
You will for sure hear from me in the future as I have a lot of questions and I hope to get valuable answers from you all.
As a start I will add a picture taken during one of my trips through Myanmar where I unexpectedly visited a Nats (= Spirit) festival close to Mignun. On the picture you see some visitors leaving 'the scene'.

Which is fine, but if you'd like to edit your profile and put in your real name under, surprisingly, 'Real Name' then we know who you are. As you've probably seen most of us use our real names.
Welcome to CiC.

To help you post images in your message so that they appear larger than thumbnail size, please refer to the FAQ/CiC forum on the main menu

That's good. Just start asking and hopefully someone will be able to help.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
My future on this board looks somewhat unsure. Tried to follow-up as per above advice. Have made an initial update of my profile and after that tried to upload a picture in the 'test section'. Unfortunately during doing so I got the message 'This IP address has been banned for violating our Terms of Use'.
It may be that have violated the Terms of Use, but have no idea which terms were involved. Can anybody help me out ?

Hi,
My name's Roy and I live in the south of Scotland. I really got intersted in photography as a way of capturing the beauty of nature arround me. I'm a climber and walker and this gets me to some special places which I really want to depict in my images. As I learn more about photography I find I want and need to expand my horizons, hence joining this forum.
Regards
Roy
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Roy
Welcome to another Scots resident (just a few more and we'll be ready to launch the takeover!).
Used to do a lot of business with Biggar in my livestock marketing days up north (Dingwall) before I got lazy and became one of the public servants that everybody now loves to hate!
As you say, the photographic opportunities for a climber and walker in Scotland are limitless and spectacular.
I hope you enjoy being on here and have already found out that it is a place where everyone is keen to support and help each other.
Please make sure you read post #1 which will help you get started

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello All, I heard my sister Katy was talkin about me on here. I figured I'd better join to keep track of her. ;) Just kidding. We've had a lot of fun talking about her photography and going out into the freezing cold and suffering for our art together. She speaks very highly of you all and since I was given permission (and conformation that I wouldn't be stepping on her toes) I thought I would join. One of things I miss most about working in animation (years ago) is being surrounded by creative people. So, no pressure, but I'm hoping you'll all fill that void. :) I mostly use my camera for photographic refrence for my art work with the occasional foray into more technical photography. Katy is quickly surpassing me in that field, but so far I am still able to add my fine art perspective. So, in a nut shell it's so much fun and I can't wait to join the fray.

Welcome. Interestingly a few of us fall into that same category.
Finding this forum certainly helped me enormously. I hope it does the same for you.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello All, I am McGreg and all my friends call me and refer to me as McGreg for one reason or another. Could be because of my hard headed Irish tendencies? I am an American living in East Tennessee and have spent most of my photographic life shooting close-ups of custom made pocket knives and other bright, reflective objects such as jewelery and watches. I have always been an outdoors man with an over appreciation of land, water and sky but was never able to capture what I see or how I see the world around us on camera. My main interests in photography is dealing with daylight (instead of studio lights) and nature. What I want to convey to folks in the images I capture is the expansive landscapes of wind blown seas of prairie grasses and awe inspiring sunsets in mountain settings. I am trying to break into the art of wide angle photography from the world of closeups in a attempt to create vivid, long lasting memories of places few people have seen from my perspective. Landscape photography in other words. I have seen pieces of this world that should have been saved on camera and am frustrated by the fact that I wasn't able to do so. I was attracted to this particular forum by it's experienced members that are willing to share their experiences and techniques without the fear of sharing and hope to be a member for quite some time.
McGreg
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi All. I tried posting here yesterday, but it doesn't seem to be there ... so maybe I had some finger trouble.
(Or maybe it's waiting for the moderator to approve?)
Anyway .... I'm a retired Electronic Engineer, I live in Cambridge, England, and I've been a keen amateur photographer for many years (though my son is a far better photographer than I'll ever be!).
I own a fairly modest "bridge" camera - a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 - but occasionally it produces some surprisingly nice photos.
I'm currently scanning hundreds of 35mm colour negatives from years past.
