Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Thanks Don!
Scotland's one of our favorite places, by the way, we spent two weeks traveling from Glasgow through Drumnadrochit, on to Skye and an extended stay in Plockton and eventually down to Edinburgh. Looking forward to a return trip.
And thanks also for the recommended links.

I am a new member to the forum. I have a Canon 50D and took a level 1 and level 2 photo course last year and went back again this fall and took level 2 again because I enjoyed it. It is a 6 week course and have gained a lot of knowledge from it. I look for photo tips and photos on the net and found this site. I like to take photos of old buildings, landscapes and macro. I live in Kingston, ON Canada.

And that's a very good second step ... particularly the bit about enjoying it. Because that's what it's meant to be about. Sure, we all get frustrated when we feel we're not learning as quickly as we want to. But, hold on to the pleasure of it all and the learning will follow.
So, please start asking questions, posting images and being part of CiC. Please make sure that you read post #1 of this thread HERE which will help you get started. And especially our Code of Conduct in the FAQ HERE
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello,
I'm Nick. I live on the sunny south coast UK. I am recently retired. I am fortunate to own a very nice Canon dslr outfit. I have been looking for a friendly, civilised web community for sharing photographic knowledge and images. I hope I've found it here. I happily participated in another internet forum - however that place is aviation centric, so I hope my landscape / garden / plants / other interest will find a home here.
Regards,
Nick.

Nick: If you saw the Italian Job, and remember Handsome Rob at the end of the movie, you'll understand who you're up against here....
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Nick-
I was looking for the same and so far I LOVE CiC. :)

Hello and welcome. That image you've posted up is certainly not Scotland at this time of year. At the moment I've got an excavator working its way down my road trying to loosen up the compacted snow that's turned to ice.

No problem. Start posting up your images. But remember, you should also try to tell us what your own opinion is of them. There's no better way to learn that to critically analyse your own work - What works and why? What doesn't work and why?
In the meantime, please make sure that you read post #1 of this thread HERE which will help you get started. And especially our Code of Conduct in the FAQ HERE

We're almost neighbours (note to rest of the world - We're just 20 minutes apart).
Welcome to CiC. What a clever tutor you have!
Don't hold back. Start posting up your images and joining in the discussions. You'll find that the focus here is on learning and supporting each other to develop our knowledge and skills. And, almost all the time, everyone approaches discussions in a constructive way.
If you haven't already done so, please make sure that you read post #1 of this thread HERE which will help you get started. Also our Code of Conduct in the FAQ HERE
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Greetings,
My real name is Barney, or at least that’s what I was called by my two semi-professional photographer parents. I was not really that interested in photography when young, due mainly to the expense and time delay between click and view. The fact that my first camera was a Box Brownie (seemingly made from plywood and sticky-back plastic) didn’t help. My later interest crystalized with my first digital camera, a Kodak DC210 with a heady 1Mpx and a noise reduction algorithm so severe that everything looked like it was made from melted plastic. Did I really pay £300 for that piece of junk?
My downfall came with my joining Bookham Camera Club – I do wish they would change the name, it sounds so geriatric. My first competition entry, from the DC210, was ruthlessly pulled apart by the judge. Smarting from this I thought, “I’ll show ‘em” and have been trying to do so ever since. It has been a wonderful journey meeting many new friends and learning a huge amount on the way.
Having had brief love affairs with Nikon and Sony and a very long lasting and delightful relationship with a Canon compact, I have settled down with the micro-4/3rds system that has the happy ability of being adaptable to pretty well any lens made, including all my old Nikon stuff.
Over the years I have come to love the extremes of photography, macro and panorama. One day I might combine them and produce a 360 degree, panoramic, bee’s eye view of the inside of a hive, or something like that. Of course, it will have to be in stereo, another, lesser interest of mine.
I am lucky in that I live on the North Downs of Surrey (England) where the photo opportunities, especially of wildlife, are almost unlimited. To make life even easier we have converted our fairly large front garden (“yard” if you are American) into a wildflower meadow that attracts huge numbers and a great variety of insects, all of whom seem keen to pose for the camera, especially after a night in the ‘fridge – but not wasps who have a pronounced distaste for such work.
Having been forced by the DC210 to learn how to use PhotoShop I also spend many relaxing hours digitizing and restoring antique natural history prints by John Curtis, William Lewin and John Audubon. I sometimes wonder how I ever find time to earn a living.
This is the sort of thing that is taking up too much time recently:

I have found (after being early-retired for 10 years) that it's best not to worry too much about that.
Hi Barney, and welcome to CiC. A very interesting and well thought-out introduction. Thank you. I'm sure you will enjoy being a member here, and we look forward to seeing some of your work. Post away!

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello, I'm Rachel and didn't become really interested in photography (although I'd always enjoyed taking photographs) until about four years ago when I bought a nice little compact Canon Powershot A640 and found that with it I could photograph my main love, insects. Since then I've been using a 400D and then a 40D. I've only got a couple of lenses - a Sigma 105mm macro and a Canon 300mm f/4L - and it's the macro lens that lives on the camera most of the time.
I'm just a hobby photographer, but am always hoping to improve. I suspect if I'm brave enough to post some images here for C&C then suggestions about what I'm overlooking in my images will be forthcoming!
My post-processing skills are minimal.
So far, I've had a good look through the forum and done a bit of voting in the mini-competition polls, and this is my first step out of lurkerdom.

Welcome Rachel. Glad you've stepped out of the cupboard out into the green fields and bright sunshine of CiC world.
I hope that, having lurked for a wee while, you've found that this is a place in which you can be comfortable and feel supported in developing your knowledge and skills.
And as for posting images - Go for it.The first one is always the hardest. After that it's easy going all the way!
You probably already done so, but in case you haven't, please make sure that you read post #1 of this thread HERE which will help you get started. Also our Code of Conduct in the FAQ HERE
