Hi Andrew,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, graet to have you join us.
I'm not familiar with the Leica, although I have briefly used one.
I think I figured the other day what the difference between Leica and other manufacturers is; when many of the popular brands design a new camera or lens, they have a budget for it, do the computer modelling, build a prototype and barring disasters, it goes into production, but with Leica, I get the feeling they keep iterating the prototype stage until it is as good as they can make it - so no wonder it costs a bit more. Now that's philosophical
Don't worry about the colour vision, we have several members with similar issues who will possibly introduce themselves when you post a picture (or few) in due course.
The HELP THREAD: How can I post images here? might be useful.
For critique, we have two forums;
People and Pets (for Portrait, sport, street and pet photography) and
Nature and Architecture (for Landscapes, wildlife, architecture and all other photography)
- just start a thread in what seems the most appropriate.
Cheers,

Hi Marty,
We are a patient (sp?) and gentle site; so just post away without fear, I put some useful links in my reply to Andrew just above, they should get you started.
What sort of subjects appeal to you and what are you shooting with?
Welcome to the CiC forums from ....
Thank you Dave and Merry Christmas,
If I wasn't offshore on my way to the Falklands I would be spending Christmas in St. Leonards Hill, Windsor !
Cheers,
Andrew.
Hi All, I'm Trev, 53 years of age from the UK. Many years ago I was a keen 35mm photographer with an Olympus OM1 and all the trimmings, albeit a lot of it went unused most of the time! After a long period of inactivity I purchased a Canon 35mm point and shoot for family snaps, eventually replacing this with a Canon point and shoot digital, which bit the dust 3 years ago.
I've just purchased a Sony DSC-HX5V. I want to revive my hobby with an ambition of having a couple of my own photos as prints on my lounge wall (shouldn't be too hard eh !). I'd dearly love to own a DSLR, but before I commit I want to improve my knowledge and skills, and the time dedicated to photography....basically, all the things outside of the camera, if that makes sense.
Looking forward to learning through the site, posting my attempts and receiving the feedback. Fingers crossed.
Regards,
Trev
Wow, less than a mile away; that could be the closest any two CiC members would have been
So, what takes you off to the Falklands? A different holiday (it'll still be summer there if you get a move on) or work?
Have a good trip and stay in touch, we'd love to see some pics.
Happy Christmas to you too,
Hi Trev,
CiC is an excellent place to learn, we look forward to assisting you with that - an awful lot of us around our age have similar stories - it's uncanny.
A lot of the stuff 'outside the camera' hasn't changed, what has, is the technology of the camera itself (yours is 'fully auto') and the second part of the digital photography process; the post processing of images to get the best finished result, this isn't new if you printed before, it is only akin to the darkroom shenanigans.
Welcome to the CiC forums from ...
Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply. The post image processing is an area that I've barely scratched the surface. I get totally frustrated, having trialled Photoshop and Paintshop, being unable to do even the simplest of operations. Perhaps just as tricky is the 'pre image' art of recognising a shot and getting the right angle and settings. We went on the Severn Valley railway yesterday, and I took the new camera. At one point I thought " If I had a £2000 camera, I'd be taking the same photographs" ! Important to stress, I'm not saying the quality of the results would be the same, but my application/approach, as it stands at the moment, would be the same. This is what I want to change. I look forward to the day when I realise I've outgrown my current camera.
Thanks again.
Trev
Hai,
I am RENUGOPAL from india. I am here for learning about photography. Now i am knowing about camera settings. one day i am searching for explaining of camera settings. Then i saw this site. This site is very well. There is all information about Photography.
Now i am learning how to take best photos. Anywere thanks for this site. I like very well.
Hi again Trev,
It is good that you have recognised where the problems lay, that is half the battle to improving.
I think the way forward is to keep shooting, shooting, shooting and post some (not all ) here for comment
Why not start with your best two from the SVR?
For critique, we have two forums;
People and Pets (for Portrait, sport, street and pet photography) and
Nature and Architecture (for Landscapes, wildlife, architecture and all other photography)

The How can I post images here? might be useful.
For a good starter PP program, I'd suggest starting with PS Elements (9), it has three modes you can progress through as your skills (and advice from here) improves. You could learn about it either through books (e.g. Scott Kelby) or there are free and paid for tutorial videos available - you won't get that level of support for any other package and if the bugs bites and you find the funds for CS5, there's not as much to relearn if you started on Elements.
Cheers,
Hi Renugopal,
Welcome to the CiC fourms from me, great to have you join us.
No doubt you have found the tutorials, if you have any questions, just ask in the appropriate forum and don't worry if you're not sure, post anyway and we'll move it to best place for answers.
Best regards,
Hi Dave,
Thanks for your advice, and above all the warm welcome, I feel part of the group already. I'll now move further in and explore.
Thanks again,
Trev
Hi there, my name is Leon and I am an amateur wildlife photographer from Phalaborwa, South Africa. I live approximately 5 kilometers from an entrance gate to the Kruger National Park and spend most of my free time there, of course with my new Canon 7D camera. I am an attorney by profession.
Now, there's a location!
Leon, you are very welcome. I hope you've managed to have a look around the site and that you'#ve found out that this is a forum very much focused on supporting colleagues and helping people to learn. I hope you enjoy it.
If you haven't already done so, please be sure to read post #1 of this thread HERE which will help you get started. Also our Code of Conduct in the FAQ HERE
CiC is a resource strongly focused towards learning, no matter what your current level of knowledge, skills and experience. As well as these forums, where you can engage in discussion, ask questions and seek comment and criticism on your pictures, CiC has a comprehensive range of tutorials that, by common consent, are amongst the most sensible and straightforward that you can find anywhere. Remember to have a look on the tutorials and techniques pages which you can access from the menu bar.
And finally, the Mod team thought it might be a useful addition to CiC to have in-house access to some selected video tutorials. You can find them in the Community Lounge forum under 'Photography Video Tutorials'.
Hi I have just received a Lumix DMC-FZ45 for Christmas. It was only when I tried to use it that I relised it was not just a point and click. I desperately searched the internet and chanced upon you great site. I have spent the morning reading from your tutorials and have just taken a few Bird shots based on your depth of field info etc.
I think I will be back to your site very often. I like the clear concise explanations that lead you to try to emulate the very good gallery pics.
Thank you..
Grancher (is that you real name? If not, you can edit your profile and insert your real name under 'Real Name')
Anyway - you are very welcome as a member of CiC.
You are a very lucky person. You've certainly moved up grades from a Point & shoot (although you can still make good pictures with those. I think you're attitude is exactly the right one - You have reaslised that what you must do now is learn. Reading what you can and practising by going out and taking lots and lots of photographs is the best way to do that. And I hope CIC can help.I have just received a Lumix DMC-FZ45 for Christmas

Hello and welcome to CiC.
I've moved the post that was immediately above this one over into another part of the site. Not everyone who might be able to provide an answer comes into these pages as regularly as they go into other parts. I'm going to put it into the 'General Photography Discussion' forum. So check back there for answers.
In the meantime, I hope you stick around CiC now that you've found us. You never know, you might get the bug!
