Hello and welcome to CiC. I hope that this is a place that can help you grow and develop your knowledge and skills in photography.
As a starting point regarding your question, click here. This is collection of previous discussions all grouped under the Tag of 'camera purchase'. Amongst this lot there you will find lots of suggestions and ideas about how to take the next step. Reading this lot will probably prompt more questions. Once you have those questions, go into, I would suggest, the 'Digital Cameras and Equipment' forum and create a thread and ask away. The other thing, of course, is to go into a good camera shop, if you have one close to you, and ask them for advice.
So far as CiC is concerned, if you haven't already done so, please be sure to read post #1 of this thread HERE which will help you get started. Also our Code of Conduct in the FAQ HERE

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
I'm Dan, in Brighton in the UK.
I've been taking photos off and on since I was about 8. Recently I've come back to it - driven by taking pictures while out cycling, which means the gear is a little more minimal than it used to be! Earlier this year I finally decided that film, process, scan, fiddle, upload was too much of a delay for sharing with friends on the web and finally went digital - in the form of a Panasonic G1. I like to think I can do the basics but the digital aspect is new, and one can always improve generally. A little searching later and here I am.

And, Dan, you are very welcome.

Hello to all.
I am a budding begginer. Believe it or not I have just upgradded from the Canon Powershot G5 to the 7d (courtesy of my 50th birthday gift from my wife. Also have the 580EXii speedlight.
My interest at the moment is Macro and Low Light photography. Sadly I lack a great deal of technical knowledge - hence my search for a solid looking group to join. I think I have found it here. Looked around a lot of sites (not joined any) but this looks like the place for me.
Lots of good tuts and realistic and honest feedback appears available to the poster. Believe me, I love the thought of honest feedback without the fluff. Can't learn if I dont have weak points highlighted. At my age the skin is pretty thick now ;)
Hope I learn lots, and of course in time am able to contribute as well.
Thanks for having me onboard.

Hi Chris,
It's good to hear that romance is not dead in Aus. :)
Seriously good pressies there!
What lens(es) have you got to tackle the Macro and Low light?
Do jump right in with any questions and of course; photos for 'fluff free' critique ;)
Welcome to the CiC forums from ....

My name is Colin Howarth. I have been retired for several years and am enjoying digital photography which I have used to capture happy memories of my two granddaughters as well as memories of my wife Jill and my holidays which have involved walking in Europe.
The attached image was shot in Alsace in April of this year using an EOS 40D with an EFS 17-85mm lens. The church is Saints-Pierre-et-Paul in Andlau and was stunning. The details are f7.1, 1/30sec, ISO 3200 at 35mm. I used Photoshop CS5 to adjust the exposure and some burning to recover the detail in the stained glass.
Comments and criticism would be welcome

Hi!
I'm Fen Ken. I've been taking photos for a few years, but have only recently taken a more serious approach to improving from holiday snaps to creating some images with some artistic merit. I'm using a Canon 1000D (mostly, but I will take photos with anything).
I've never introduced myself on a Forum before, so I'm a little shy/uncertain. However, it was reet cold here the other day - so cold the river froze over:

Hi Colin (great name by the way) :D,
Welcome to CiC - it's great to have you with us.
We don't normally do CiC on images in the welcome thread (it's long-enough already!) - so I'd suggest simply popping a copy of the image into the Nature and Architecture forum, and we'll be "all go" for you from there!

Hi Ken,
Welcome to CiC - great to have you with us too :)
No need to be shy - you're amongst friends :) (and we haven't executed anyone for a couple of minutes now!) (and he deserved it ... everyone knows it's "they're" and not "theyre", so he had it coming really!)
(just kidding)!

Often times it can be "there" (or "their") :)
What are we talking about? :o

Hello, My name is Jeff Wignall and I'm a writer and photographer and the author of numerous how-to photography books, including The NEW Joy of Digital Photography, Jeff Wignall's Digital Photography Crash Course and Exposure Photo Workshop. I also have a blog called "(The Occasional) Photo Tip of the Day" (http://www.phototipoftheday.blogspot.com) where I (occasionally) post photo tips, not to mention whatever else is in my head that day. I am essentially a travel photographer who doesn't travel quite as much as he would like. I live in Connecticut and it's great, except for the complete lack of things like palm trees, hot sunshine in winter and citrus trees. My main site is: http://www.jeffwignall.com. Oh, I also garden a lot and have pretty much replaced my lawn with raised garden beds. I number worms among my best friends.
