Hello and welcome. We're glad that you like the site and that it has been providing you with valuable information.
The important thing to remember that the only dumb question is the one that you don't ask. I think you'll find people on here are very willing (as well as very able) to answer whatever question you want to post up. Look forward to seeing your pictures.

Hi Cindy,
Welcome to the CiC forums from me, great to have another 'bird freak' (ok - that's probably overstating it) join us.
I see you're a Canon girl with a 550D and that's a good shot of a nice specimen there, not that I recognise it :o
You've come to the right place to learn, we can help with that be it with questions, or critique on some of your shots - we have a forum for it.
All the best,

Hi all. My name is Leigh, I am from Johannesburg, South Africa. I have always enjoyed taking photo's but just as a hobby. I received a Canon EOS 1000D for christmas 2 years ago and have been playing with it and trying to learn how to use it properly. I am busy doing a photography course at the moment and hope to take even more amazing photos than before. I am hoping to learn lots from all of you on line here and to get inspiration as well. Cheers for now Leigh ;)

Delighted that you've chosen to join up to CiC and, also, that you're now stepping up a few gears in terms of your knwoeldge and skills. I'm sure the course you're doing will help. Hopefully being on CiC will also contribute to that.
Please do post up any questions that you have - there is no such thing as dumb question. And, I hope, we soon see some of your pictures.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
My name is Doug. I have been involved in photography for several years. I got seriously into digital photography in 2001 when I bought a Minolta DiMage 5. In 2002 I upgraded to a true DSLR in the form of a Canon D60 with a 28-135mm lens. Over a few years I picked up a 100-400mm IS 5.6 L, a 45mm TS, and a 14mm AF 2.8 L. I recently purchased a Canon 7D. I really enjoy the features and using most of the features. I have been a user of Gimp for a couple years. I love the features and simplicity of working with the layers. I shoot raw or JPEG depending what my intentions are for the finished product.
I was pointed at this website by member jeeperman. I know it is a good forum if you didn't scare him off. :D
I'm looking forward to learning more great skills and sharpening the ones that I already have.
Cheers,
Doug
P.S. I just got done reading the Code of Conduct and the first post in this thread. Good information. I like it and hope to be a valuable contributor.

Yet another highly discerning post-processor!!
Doug - A very warm welcome (and not just because you're another GIMP user).
I'm glad you've been pointed towards CiC and hope that you both a) find it useful and, b) that you do indeed dive in and join in the discussions etc.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Donald,
As I use GIMP ever so often (just now I did), and have been to Glenfarg a few times, I might fit in?!
Started in photography on my own 50 years ago with a Kodak Brownie Starlet, and am now using Pentax SLRs, and DSLRs. The latest addition is a K-5, next newest Pentax is a SFX!
As I never have been a professional photographer I have at times used cameras in my line of work, but not nowadays, as I since the late eighties mainly has been a bus driver (except for eight years, after a traffic accident near Glenfarg, in May 1990 - took me eight years, and about 15 operations - to heal enough to go back to work). But my CV would include heli guard, security officer, firefighter, technical illustrator, MA in journalism, editor-in-chief, university level studies in Sweden, Scotland and Holland, studies in Languages, Art, Aeronautics, to name a few ;-)!
Love outdoor life, drawing, photography, graphic design, paddling, birds, aircraft (model, and full-scale). And my wife Ann-Christine

You get even more starter points than Doug. The GIMP AND Glenfarg mentioned in the same post.... although not to good to read of the circumstances above.
Welcome on board CiC
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
I came across CIC whilst searching for advanced Photoshop techniques saw the tutorial on using the Curves tool what more do I need to say. I started with a Canon 300D back in 2004 my current cameras are a 1Dsmk111 and a 1Dmk111. My photographic passions are fast action stuff low fly jets motorsports would love to photograph Ocean racers hanging off the side of their yachts hence the 1D, studio portrait glamour art nude hence the 1Ds very challenging lots of retouching and hence my current interest in advanced photoshop techniques. I do general landscape stuff as I still get out into the hills walking and climbing when I can and I have a plan to try and do some bird photography come the Spring. Passionate enthusiast about sums it up wished I had done it years ago well work came first but been retired a while now so I have plenty of time to indulge. :)
Cheers for now.
Bill

Hello all, My name is Michael..I have been hooked on photography for about 4 or 5 years now and love every minute of it...I live in the U.S. on the central coast of California..This is the third photography forum that I have joined and so far I have learned much from all of them...I expect this one will be no different...
Right now I am using a Nikon D90 and have 4 or 5 lenses and unfortunately the "urge" to buy more is CONSTANT...I love landscape, portrait (relatively new at it), and lately very keen on Macro shooting....Just received my Kenko extension tubes and very anxious to learn how to use them....My only hope is to have more time (and $$) to do more traveling to great places to shoot....Looking forward to learning all I can from all of you...
Cheers, Michael

Hello and welcome to CiC.
Because CiC is a site the main aim of which is to assist learning, I hope you find lots on here to interest you. As well as reading all the tutorials, please feel able to ask lots of question in these forums.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Greetings, I had better introduce myself as I will no doubt be asking for help on here in the future (I already have 1 question, I'll put it in the correct place).
My name is Michael, 25 y.o, lived in Chesterfield all my life and after many years of using a trusty compact camera I finally I bought a DSLR. I have owned my Canon 550D for a few weeks now and I'm enjoying playing with it and learning about real photography, thankfully I have a few good friends into photography also. I'm currently most keen on landscape photography and hoping to build up an array of lenses and other tools as I'm currently stuck with just a kit lens and a tripod.
Here's my flickr page with a few old photos, I hope to start getting some decent shots to upload: http://www.flickr.com/photos/maustin20/
Cheers.

Michael - Hello and welcome. I am sure CiC will help you in your development of knowledge and skills. I hope you find that the site is a pretty informal place where everyone is committed to supporting and helping others develop their interests in photography.

Hi,
I'm Jez, Cambridge based personal trainer with a passion for photography. I grew up and regularly travel to Zimbabwe where I spent most of my life working with wildlife. Photographic interests are wildlife and portrait and I've just bought my first Bowens lighting system and trying to learn how to use it now.
Website is under construction so watch this space.
