Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hallo, my name is Bagus. I'm a medical doctor, but I love taking pictures using my Canon EOS Kiss X4 that I bought last year. Tutorials on CiC helped me a lot in learning photography. Nice to know you all. I hope I can learn about photography more in this forum.
Best regards,
Bagus
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi Everyone,
What a wonderful site - happy to meet you. Am privileged to be living on the Central Coast, NSW, Australia. Count me in as a digital newbie -but one who has always loved taking photography over a lifetime - started as a child with a Brownie box camera, then a Praktika IVB with Zeiss lens (bought in the early 60's on way by sea from Australia to Europe), then a Leica M4 with great lenses - all for film. Only recently switched to a Panasonic Lumix compact for digital (just great for catching movement).
Am a Mac user after using Windows for too many years - and the Mac has inspired to thoroughly enjoy going digital at last. Tend to lean toward natural shots - without vivid colours or lens filters - but do understand many photographers working with Windows and those viewing images on Windows monitors may feel the need to have more vibrancy and sharper images as otherwise the photos may tend to appear more subdued, especially when viewed over the internet. However, this is not to say that don't welcome experimenting or altering photos toward an art form, though perhaps more in a subtle way. So a new learning curve for me with digital and welcome feedback.
As the world is going through very difficult times - would like to also mention to those currently suffering icy winters, going through historic flood conditions or civil unrest - may your way be made safe and may peace and calm soon return.
Wendy

Hey my name is Tobi
I live in South Africa and am keen to learn about all types of photography and am always open to criticism to help improve my photos.
Most of all I enjoy any kind of nature photography but also take my camera along to Volleyball training to get some great action photos. Recently I have also been opening up to the side of portrait and studio photography and want to learn and practice it more and more.
I use a Canon 350d and have the standard 15-85mm lense but also have a sigma 70-300mm telephoto macro lense and have recently purchased a canon EF 100mm 2,8 USM macro lense but havnt been able to try it out yet because it is stil on its way but am eagre to try it out asap
Well thats the basics on my Photography hobbies.
Cheers

Hi Wendy,
Thanks for the 'warm' wishes - we have some of that icy weather just now, but I'd far rather that than the other problems people face, I am lucky, I know.
A good intro post, which leaves me (unusually) with nothing to ask ;)

Hi Tobi,
At 5 posts already, there's little to be said here I think; you've obviously 'jumped in with both feet', rather than 'dipping a toe in', good for you. I'd better go see what you have been up to ;)

Hello .. and welcome to CiC.
Very glad to see that bit about 'participating'. I hope you have already found that CiC is a site populated by people who are not here to massage their own egos, but instead are focused on sharing knowledge and experience.
So, please do jump right in and join in discussion etc.

Hello, my name is Russ from Hampton, VA USA.
I am interested in learning about IR filters which are an integral part of certian CCD
designed digital cameras. Is there anyone in the forum space who is familiear with
the technical specifics of such imbedded internal lenses? I am doing very high temp.
photography and need to learn how to modify, and or replace/specify, the wavelength
of the IR lens filter to suite my photos.
Thanks u very much and nice to be a part of this forum group.
Regards

First of all - welcome to CiC. I hope you will stick around on the site and become a part of the community. I can't answer your question but I do think there are a number of people who would be able to.
Given that they might miss your question in here, I have taken the liberty of copying into a new thread in the 'General Photography Discussion Forum'.

Hi Peggy,
Yes, we're a good, no, great, place to learn, so ask as many questions as you can and post pictures for constructive feedback - we (as a community) do that rather well even if I do say so myself :)

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello
My name is Krisztina. My dream is to become a professional photographer-I get easily discouraged though, I know I have a LONG way to go! With SO much information, so much to learn and SO many talented people out there AND my lack of funds seems like I'll never quite get there.
I am a stay at home mom. I have a 16 month old daughter (SHE MEANS THE WORLD TO ME) and I have another bun in the oven expected to arrive in early June.
I'm poor- financially (rich in other ways) A good friend of mine- a budding photographer, lent me her "old" camera indefinitely so I can finally start learning how to use a DSLR. I am using a Canon RebelXT, and the only lens I have w/ that is a 60mm macro lens.
Oh how foreign it was/is to me, trying to figure out this thing ALL on my own! Online tutorials and the book "Understanding Exposure",By Bryan Peterson ( I got as a Christmas gift this year) has helped a bit. Also, I definitely cannot afford any Photoshop programs, SO I have only dabbled with it (so fun, but again, SO much to learn) through the 30 day trials they offer :))
I have a Picasa account, and I have used it's photo editing for some of my photos.
Note: the camera I had used before was an Olympus Stylus1010 (point and shoot) which sadly, the lens won't retract anymore, and now I can't even use that as a back-up. ( I loved being able to at least record video footages of my daughter) Don't know when I'll be able to purchase something new.
I have many questions and I look forward to learning something new from all of you.
Please feel free to look at my Picasa website. ( Where my daughter is practically my number one model for now- practice, practice!!)
I think my photos have definitely improved since her birth :)
Thank You

Krisztina
Hello from me and a very warm welcome onto CIC. I am glad you've found us and hope you are able to remain a member for a very long time.
I acknowledge what you say about the restrictions you face financially. But I also note your total enthusiasm for photography and for learning so that you can improve your knowledge and skills. Yes, money can be important if you want to purchase pots of equipment. But money cannot develop your own talent and ability to 'see' an image. And that, I think, is the most important part of photography.
You say you have Picasa. It can help you with some post-processing activities. There are other free-to-download post-processing software packages. One of the best known of these is the GIMP, which I use. The 'problem' that some people have with this is that there are not so many sources of support (books, online tutorials) as there are for the Adobe products (Photoshop, Elements, etc). But I managed to learn how to use it from the online video tutorials that are available. And if I can learn, anyone can learn!
It's great to have you here as part of CiC and I hope we will see your pictures and that you join in discussions and ask lots of questions.
And, finally, where are you? You can edit your profile and put in your location (country, city or area). Also, when you edit your profile, you can put in your name under 'Real Name' This means that it will appear alongside all your posts and then people will know how to address you.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Thank You for your encouraging words and your warm welcome. Much appreciated.
I had dwnloaded GIMP once, but then deleted it bc it seemed to me much more difficult to use (at least at first), plus I am running low on Disk space on my C: drive ( which has been making me very frustrated since I'm not sure what else I need to delete to make more space)
We have one computer, my laptop(Hp zv6000), my dad bought me for college several years ago...it has seen better days!!! but it sure is better than nothing! :)
I will update my profile soon ( I live in Southern California) but now it's back to the daily routine with the Little one
Hope you have a great day,
and thanks again,
Krisztina
