Hi All,

Great to have you join CiC.
Please remember, though, that the Mini Competitions are only one part of CiC. You will get much more than just votes by also posting your images into the main Comment and Criticism fora, where people will be happy to help you analayse your work and where you can have discussions about it. The Mini Comps are a bit of fun. They're not really designed as learning tools.
But, however you use CiC - enjoy it.
Hi, I'm Jim -born and bred in Scotland but been a resident of Sweden for the past 40 years. I bought my first dslr a couple of years ago and soon found CIC - amazing tutorials.
Hello,
My name is John and I live in Slingerlands, NY, just outside of Albany. I started with a Minolta X-700 in 1988, and currently use a Canon 40D and an S90. My wife is a professional photographer (that's her in the photo, taken in the Old Forge, NY area), and it is fun to go out and shoot with her, because we see different things and take different kinds of photographs. I am looking forward to the same kind of interaction on a larger scale with Cambridge in Color. I am very impressed with the quality of photography here, as well as the friendly and informative writing.
hi...im not a professional photographer..but im doing as hobby..i really like nature photos....
John
Thank you for choosing to join up with CiC. Great to have you on board.
I hope that you do finds that the discussions and exchanges that take place on here do add to your enjoyment of photography and contribute to your development of knowledge and skills.
If you wish, you can edit your profile and add your proper name under 'Real Name' That way it will appear in the side bar alongside each of your posts.

A very personal as well as a Moderator, welcome to CiC. Personal, because Sri Lanka is a place I love and you are the first member, I am sure, from there. It is now over 8 years since I was last in Sri Lanka. I have spent most of the time during my visits in Kandy, but when in Colombo stayed in the Galle Face.
I hope you enjoy being a member of CiC.
I'm a long time transparency film user and I'm not planning on giving that up any time soon but it is getting hard to come by these days. Even so, I've recently acquired a Canon 400D. I am discovering that digital is most definitely not film and while many basic principles still apply I have a lot of new stuff to learn as well, hence my choice of user name.
I found CinC via a Google search for digital photography tutorials and then stumbled on the Tree Image thread. One of the vaguely presentable digital images I have so far is of the end of a log, you can see a downsampled version here.

Hello everyone, my name is Lyndsey and I've decided to join after lurking around for a month or two. I've been interested in photography for many years, but only recently got my first DSLR, a Christmas gift from my husband, a Nikon D3000. I'm now trying to learn everything I can about my new camera and how to use it, and having a blast at the same time. My favorite subjects to shoot are my three kids typically running around the beautiful south Florida landscape.
I'm happy to be here and hope to make some new online friends!
Hello, Peter here.
I live in Adelaide, South Australia.
I have a Nikon D3100 with
Nikon DX VR AF - S Nikkor 18 - 55mm 1:3.5 - 5.6 G
Nikon DX VR AF - S Nikkor 55 - 300mm 1:4.5 - 5.6 G ED
I am also a member of DPS and have had my D3100 since Christmas, (thank you to my Darling wife)
I am still learning all of the features of DSLR photography and am slowly getting there.
Peter
But you're allowed to cheat and tell us your proper name as well. You can do that by editing your profile and inserting your name under 'real name'. I hope CiC proves to be a helpful resource and that the mysteries of digital begin to come clear for you.
Good to have you on board
Good - try to keep it that way. There will be the times that you get frustrated because something is not making sense for you. But just remember that you'll get through that ... and keep enjoying yourself.
Please do post up lots of questions, join in the discussions and have a blast on here as well.
You lucky person, you.
Welcome Peter. Glad you found us.
Have you been shooting anything in particular or are you trying it out on various subjects? I hope it's not long before you want to post up some images either for constructive discussion in the comment and criticism forums, or in one or other of the competition threads.
Hi! I'm a lifestyle photographer specializing in children and families....I'm new to the business and look forward to this amazing journey~!
Hello and welcome to CiC. I see you've got right in with your first question - on lenses. Good on you.
You maw have noticed that the informal and friendly nature of the site means that most of us use our proper names. You can edit your profile and put that in under 'Real Name' so that it will appear alongside all your posts. The other thing you can do is put in your location, so everyone knows where in the world you are.
I hope you enjoy being here and I look forward to seeing some of your work.
Hello. I am new to this community.
And I am sorry to admit that my knowledge of the English language is very basic. Thanks to the online translator to help me interpret the meaning of the above.
I'd like to read the tutorials and learn much photography. I hope and I want to meet some day like a fish in water from these pages.
Since my beginning with Olympus OM (35mm) and now with my 5D, I still get the illusion of making a good photograph.
... And how easy it looks!!
I send you warm greetings from Spain - Madrid
Hi there,
I live in Istanbul where we have lots of chances to catch amazing exposures, so as a beginner I first aim at photograhpying the places where I spent most of my time in my life, that wherer I live, in this thousand years old beatiful city. I strongly need your advices and comments on my photography in order to do my best. Here's a sample of a "debutant"
Cheers
Gokhan

A very warm welcome to you - the first member from Istanbul, I think.
As you say, a magnificent city. I have only been privileged to visit the city once. It is a very beautiful place. If your interests are in architectural photography, then there can be no more wonderful buildings to photograph than those in Istanbul.
