Hi Richard,
My in-laws used to live in Petersfield, I think that's about my only connection with Hampshire (other than driving through it) which is a shame, you have some nice hills there as I remember - the Thames valley is a bit flat in places!
If you're looking to learn, don't be shy of asking questions or posting images.

I'm hoping learn how to put it good use here.
Hi Ian,
As I was just saying to Richard, the best advice I can give is to post yourself for learning, don't be shy, ask questions and post images for critique - we're always constructive in our responses here at CiC, rather than overly "gee wow" or "that sucks" :D
So go on, take the plunge :)

Thanks for taking the time to read this and all the best!

I just thought that I would say that I am currently using a Canon 50D and also have a Canon XTI and a Canon EOS Elan. :)
Hi Nicholas,

I am new in photography world and a few days ago I bought myself my first ever camera. But, not a proffesional camera (canon xs30is) because this is my first time starting to read and learn about photography and taking interest in it. I literally don't know anything....But it's never too late for starting to learn.
This is a great site where I can really learn and see my mistakes. I have never taken any courses about photography and I recently shoot my first picture (which was really bad):-)
I am hoping for better ones and for you to help me to upgrade myself and to improve my photos:-) Your criticism is welcomed.
And I apologize for my grammatical mistakes, because english is not my mother tongue:-))))
Thank you for reading this post and I am very glad for joining this site
:-)
Hi Silvija,
I see you have got a picture into a Mini Competition, which is great, but that isn't the best place for gathering feedback and critique, I'd suggest any pictures where that is the aim are just posted into one of the two normal forums (Nature & Architecture or People & Pets).
Also, it might be wise to Edit your profile and add "Silvija" as your real name, or many will assume you are called Arlena.
There's no need to apologise for your English, it is perfectly understandable - and 1 million percent better than my (non-existent) Croatian ;o

Hi Ali,
Great to have another D5000 shooter join, welcome to the CiC forums from me.
I guess you're not short of things to photograph in a country like that? (It always looks impressive in the holiday ads on TV here)
What subjects interest you most?
and when can we see them?
I ask because THE best way to learn is to practice (lots) and post here for critique.
All the best,

Hi all,
Graham here from Sydney Australia. I am interested to learn more about this great hobby. I am currently using a Canon 5D II with a host of L lens. I am expecting delivery next week of the 200 f2 to capture sports, so any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Attached is a shot with the 85 f1.2

Hello Graham and welcome to CiC. Thanks for joining us.
Sounds as if you're well set up in the gear department. What sort of sport is you intend to be shooting?
You say you're attaching an image, but it's not showing up. If you haven't done so already, please do have a read through this thread, which is all about how to post images in CiC.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi all,
I'm completely new to this fantastic website - and am quite overawed and intimidated by the quality of the images posted :)
I've been an amateur photographer for 50+ years (120 Kodak!) and enthusiastically did all my own dark-room processing (B&W) whilst a teenager. However I never made the leap to colour processing, and my interest in photography waned with the lack of "hands-on" control, so that for many years I just took "holiday snaps".
My enthusiasm was revived by the introduction of digital photography, and I purchased a Fuji finepix in 1999 and then one of the first "affordable" DSLRs, a Canon EOS 300D, in 2003. I've acquired a few lenses since, and now I've just "graduated" to an EOS 60D which I'm looking forward to appreciating as I work through the manual :)
My first love is landscape and wild-life photography ... but my first-love has been somewhat side-lined by the arrival of grandchildren, who now seem to be the subject of the majority of my shots!

I'm now semi-retired, so looking forward to having more time for such a satisfying hobby.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
hello fellow photo enthusiasts!
my name is "light man," ha, Gabriel/Gabe
I am presently in the military in the medical field stationed in NJ and also have a home in NJ, married with two children, Emily 14 and Jonathan 11
my first real interest in photography began in Nov 2004 when I purchased a Casio Xlim (7 megapixels at that time cost me $400!), however, I have always surrounded myself by images of all kinds, funny ones, emotional ones, you name it
presently, I have, a nikon d40x purchased in aug 2007, also have a canon powershot sx110, canon powershot sd1400, and an iphone!
in aug of 2007 I began using photoshop cs3 and now have cs5, I am a intermediate user of photoshop and use it pretty much everyday in order to eventually master it, I do have two wacom tablets for two laptops, I have concentrated on ps strongly over the last 3.5 years since the learning curve is so steep and It seems to me that lots of practice and perseverance with this program is key to getting a handle on it
I love all kinds of photography but leaning towards nightime and lighting effects, I am especially fascinated by the concept of light! I have over 30,000+ images over the last 4 years and some of them I believe are quite descent but we will see, you all have the great eyes here!!
I take criticism well and look forward to learning from all of you!
Its good to have a chance to join you all.
Hi, I am Rozlee, a male age 46 yrs this year. I'm using Nikon D50 camera and still new in photography. Its a great pleasure to be able to join this group of photographers, especially in this Cambridge in Colour site. Thank you.

I am an amateur photographer and enjoy a wide range of styles from landscape and wildlife to portrait and abstract photography. I am completely self-taught and am looking forward to benefiting from the knowledge, skill, talent and experience of it's members.
