Thanks for your comment about the site and a very warm welcome.
As you've probably already seen, CIC is very much about learning, no matter what skill level people are already at. I think you'll find it a place where mature discussion takes place about all manner of photographically-related subjects and where the vast pool of knowledge and experience that's on here is willingly shared. I look forward to you being part of that pool.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
HI folks, My name is Jim and I live in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. I have been taking photographs for a very long time, but have rather been left behind with the digital cameras and the complications associated with sensor size, pixel density and the overall number of pixels. I began taking photographs with a Voigtlander 120/620 folding camera and moved onto an Edixa 35mm. I then used (and still have) a Yashica twin lens reflex camera, an Edixa mount Pentax and a Nikon SLR.
My foray into digital photography started with a Canon Xapshot, followed by a Fuji Finepix (which has proven to give the best results, in spite of only being 4 megapixels), to today with a Canon SD? and a Sony (pre Carl Zeiss lenses). So I am here to learn as much as I can.
Re: Creating a more transparent image
I am new at this, I thought would get a new camera so I bought a pentax K r. I don't know anything about slr's. so I determined which one to buy based on specs of several canmeras in a certain price range. Is this a good camera, don't hold back.

Hello and welcome to CiC. Great to have you joining.
I have to confess to glazing over and shutting down when all that technical stuff about sensor sizes and pixels starts getting talked about. My attention stretches as far as - 'Is this a good image that can do the job I want?' If the answer is 'Yes', then I'm not too interested in the technical bits.
But, there are lots of people on here who can get involved in any sort of discussion.
Please do join in the discussion - post up your questions and your images.

Hi!
My name is Greg and I do landscape photography and hiking in the Adirondack region of NY. Even though the temps get to -20 and we can get over 7 feet of snow, I would not live any place else. My favorote subjects are waterfalls, reflections and fall colors. My philosophy is to recreate the image as close as possible as my eye saw it.

Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hello All,
Not sure of how much to say, so I'll just blurt.
I'm a Nikon D40 owner for 3yrs. Finally splurged on a telephoto lens and flash. Since this investment, I've been learning so much more about digital photography. And like most things we learn, the more I've been learning the more questions I have.
I'm looking to photograph animals as part of my work with animals. Specifically pets, obedience and show competitions. I've come to really enjoy abstract scenic photos as well. I would also like to tinker more with Gimp and Aperture.
I look forward to meeting you all.
Erik
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi Randy,
I live in Ohio but have some very good friends in Gravois Mills MO, are you close? I have been a school bus driver for almost 30 years but am now going back to school for photography. Big change, but I will soon need to retire. I have a Cannon Rebel T2i but am just learning. I have gotten so many tips from this site! I have always used the point and shoot so this is both frustrating and fun.
Glad to hear from you.. Becky

Aahh, Erik, you've found both the beauty and frustration of photography. But if you enjoy being ona learning curve, then it's mostly pleasure and an exciting journey!
Welcome to CiC. This is one place to certainly have your questions answered. You'll find people more than willing to share knowledge and experience. Your interests do indeed give you the potential for lots of good subject matter to work with. I look forward to seeing some of your images.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here
Hi Everyone,
I am Shaju from Bangalore, India. Started my DSLR journey with D60 and 18-55 kit lens back in 2009. Bought and used 55-200, 70-300, 90mm macro, 18-50 2.8, 35mm 1.8, 70-200 2.8 and finally 50mm 1.4. As the lenses kept coming and going, body also got upgraded to D90 since an year :). Right now I am left with D90, 50mm 1.4 and 70-200 2.8 with a 2X teleconverter for occasional birding etc.
After experimenting with different subjects, I realized that I love shooting People, Faces, Nature more than anything else. Love to move to an FX body for many reasons. I have an active Facebook page with over 460 images. Hope to improve my skills as the days pass. I spent weekends with my DSLR usually driving to various locations with similar minded friends. Hope to learn more from this forum and share my learning stages whenever possible :)
A self portrait taken this week !

Hello and a very warm welcome to CiC. That's a very impressive first image that you have posted by way of an introduction. A beautiful mood and atmosphere.

Hi
My name's Natasha Turner and obviously I am a keen photographer -well to be honest since I purchased my Nikon D90 3 years ago it has grown into an obsession and now a part time hobby business! I am always keen to learn as much as I can to enhance my photography and pick up all the tips that help along the way! I live in Surrey, London and which provides me with a mixture of urban and country surroundings to put my camera to work!

Oh, that's what we like to hear!!
Welcome, Natasha. great to have you on board. I'm glad you found CiC.
Do you like to be called Tash, or is it Natasha? If the latter (or even if not) you can go into Edit Profile and add your proper name under 'Real Name' and then it will appear in the side bar alongside all your posts.
If you have your own website or images on a hosting site, then you can put the link in as a 'signature' to appear at the bottom of your posts.
Any, great to have you here. Please do join in the discussions which, I hope you'll see, tend to be more mature and 'grown-up' than some of the inane rubbish you get in other places, and post up your images, either for comment and/or in the competition and challenge threads.
