Ah, another one has fallen victim to the fateful bug ....!
Welcome Mark. I'm glad you've found us.
Don't allow the fact that there is so much to learn, overwhelm you. It can seem daunting. But take it one step (or one skill, or one area of knowledge) at a a time. And then you do begin to feel all the bits starting to slot into place together. But of you push it too hard you just get more and more frustrated.
But this is certainly a forum where you will get all the help you want. Our focus is on learning and supporting colleagues. So, please do join in.

Hello everyone
My name is Mike and I am in West Sussex on the south coast of England.
I have been a keen amateur photographer for many years, with a main interest in landscape photography.
I am sure I will find CiC entertaining, inspiring and educational!

- Oh yes, there are some 'interesting' characters on here, to be sure! If you see thread starting go completely off topic and get very silly, don't worry - normal service will eventually be resumed!
- Hope so
- Definitely - that's what CiC is all about
Look forward to you joining in

My name is Bud Ralston and I’m new to this site. I started taking pictures with a Japanese 35mm SLR film camera I bought in 1966. I moved up to a Canon AE-1 that I used for years. I moved into digital with a Sony P&S. Then into DSLRs with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20. My current camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50. It has been a good camera with a great Leica zoom telephoto lens. I’m now ready to move up in quality and capabilities. I will go on the forum to seek advice in helping me with my purchase decisions.

Newbie Introduction.
Hi there, my name is Tony (posting name Tonto). I am quite new at photography, but learning fast. I have a Canon 550 D with a couple of lenses. I hope to post regularly, but have looked at some of the photo's posted, and feel intimidated. The standard is high.:D
Can someone explain how I post a profile pic?

That's a substantial history you've got, so please feel able to contribute some of that experience into the discussions that go on in CiC. There are quite a few Lumix shooters on here.
It's great to welcome you on board. I hope you enjoy being part of the forum.

Please, please don't feel intimidated by what you see. One of the wonderful things about CiC (there are many) is that you will not get told that your picture is not good enough to be on this site as, I believe, happens in some other places. The only reason I'm here is because of the culture and attitude of this site, which is very much about helping others to learn and accepting that everyone has to start at the beginning. If that ever changes, I'd be out of here.

Maybe you mean an Avatar that will appear alongside your posts rather than a profile pic. The two are different. But, if not, the process is the same anyway.
First of all, you need to get your image ready for uploading. Choose your picture and re-size it down to 80px on the longest side.
Under 'Forum Actions' ion the menu bar, choose 'Edit Profile.
Then choose either 'Edit Avatar' or 'Edit Profile Pic'
The choose how you want to do it - either upload from another website (e.g. Flickr) or directly from your computer.
And it should be there.

Hello and welcome.
Regretably, as you may have read in the information about the site, CiC operates only in the English language. We are sorry we cannot accommodate multilingual sections, but do not have the resources to support that.
If you are able to write in English, we would very much like to welcome you as a member.

I hope I got the translation right: "Hi (or Hello) to all from Spain, I am a regular at the picture and forums of the site, I hope to learn much for you all "UDS".
Best Regards.
Welcome to CiC, Señor Linares. :)

Hi, My name is Graham and I live in Bridge of Weir, Scotland. I'm relatively new to photography, but I'm just getting in to HDR. I'm reading a book about it and it keeps referring to clipping of the histogram. Can someone explain this to me because I'm just not getting it.:(
Regards,
Graham Evans

Graham, welcome to CiC. I suggest you post your question on the forum so you can get more definitive answers to your inquiry. As a quick answer, when the graph inside the histogram window touches the extremities of the left (shadow) and right (highlight) edges, then there's a good possibility that you are losing valuable color and tone data, hence the term "clipping". Hope this helps.

You're just down the road!!
Welcome. Great to have you on board. I hope you enjoy CiC.
We could just leave your question on here, but it won't get seen by so many people because not everyone comes in here. But, because I think it will be of interest to lots of people quite new to photography who will be looking in, I'd like to move it over to the Image Post processing section. So, if you go in there in a few minutes you should see your message copied over.

Baz - Welcome. I'll assume that you are the one on the right in the avatar!!
Great to have you join up. If you're just discovering Cic, the one thing I hope you'll see is that this is a place where the focus is on learnign and where people are only too willing to share their knowledge and skills. And the 'rule' most certainly is - there is no such thing as a dumb question.
There are a few train enthusiasts on here, so if you start posting steam train pics, you'll certainly get a reaction.

Hello am thememorykeeper at home and and at work. Love to make pictures and snapshots, prefer candid shots to posed ones and have a soft spot for cats. Looking forward to learning and receiving feed back as soon as I figure out how to upload more than one pic at a time.
Re: NEW MEMBER? please introduce yourself here

Hello and welcome. If you've been around the site for any time, you'll see that we tend to go with proper names - makes everything a bit more friendly, which is one of the underpinning values of CiC.
You can edit your profile and under 'Real Name' insert your name so that it appears in the side bar beside all your posts.
You don't tell us what your shooting with.
With your welcoming e-mail I think you go a link to the thread that guides you through posting images onto CiC, either for entry in one of the challenge threads or into the Photo Commentary sections fro criticism and comment.
If you want to learn, acquire more knowledge and develop your skills, then you have found the right forum.

Hello and welcome ... and congratulations on getting your first image posted onto CiC.
You don't tell us where you are. You can edit your profile and type in your location (country or area) so that then appears alongside all your posts in the future. Because of the very friendly nature of this site, we like to know who people are and where they come from.
