Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts.
In terms of colour blindness - hello from a fellow member of the club! I've written about that a number of times on here and am still not sure whether that is the reason I've gone down the B & W road, or is it just because I love B & W! Never knew you could get such a thing as colour blindness correction lens. I'd love to try that, just to see the world as others see it.
Anyway - welcome to CiC. I hope ytpou become a long-term contributor and participant. Hopefully you've already seen that this is a friendly space where people are only too willing to help and advise colleagues, all with the aim of improving knowledge and skills.

Hi my nane is Shelley,
I was born and raised in England but for the last twenty years in beautiful sunny Florida, I love photography and anything connected to it, when I was 16 I won a photo competition, i lived in Ravenscar at that time and that was when the bug was born, now many years later I am really into the amazing digital world and post processing. I only wanted to be a nature, landscape photog, but soon realized if i wanted to buy new stuff i would have to take people photos, so here i am. I have a Nikon D60 (old) and a Nikon 300s love this one, lenses Nikon 50mm 1.8 great night lens, 70-300 2.8, a 18-55 3.5, and a 55-200 also an old 28-300 which works when its in the mood, but takes great clear photos when its in the mood lol. I am still very much in the need for the technical part of the learning process, so I was very excited to come across your site and even more excited to join.
Shelley - That's okay. Don't worry, you can still join ........ said the Scotsman!

Anyway, great to have you here and your attitude that perhaps you can help others as well as learning, is exactly what CiC is all about. We have a community of people that's always willing to share knowledge and experience to help others grow in terms of photography. I look forward to seeing some of your work.
Hi Jim,
I am glad to have someone not too far away. Sorry I can not help you because I am just learning myself I am in Norwalk OH, not too far from you. I have driven school bus for almost 30 years and am looking to change careers. I do not post pictures here yet but I do get a lot of help in my photography classes. I am going for an assosiates degree from Art Institute of Pittsburgh online. The tutorials are really helpful too. It can be a real challenge for an old person also learning the computer at the same time. I am lucky for some of my people shots, I work at a school/ workshop for special needs folks and I think most of my folks are real hams!!!
Good luck in your work. Becky

Hello everyone,
My name is Diana and I am from The Netherlands. I came across this great site by chance. I liked it and decided to join you.
I have sort of love-hate relationship with photography. I have studied film (TV, 16mm, editing), which, on a contrary of what many people think, doesn't automatically make me a photographer. After my study I spent some years in a print room of an university here in Holland, preparing photo collections for exhibitions and putting the best pictures of the collections in a digital archive. That last meant scanning thousands of photos, most of them about hundred years old, and after that "restoring" them on the screen with photoshop so they look as much as possible like the original. Going pixel deep on masterpieces had as effect that I didn't take a single picture for the next 5-6 years. I just saw from too close too many pictures which were pure perfection, and this was not as much inspiring, as intimidating. Meanwhile the cameras became more and more sophisticated, there came more software for post production etc.
About two years ago I got a small Nikon Coolpix "just for fun", and about a month ago I decided that I have too big passion for photography to ignore it. So after some research I got a Nikon D3100 (I am an amateur, so no fancy equipment for me yet), with a standard 18-55 mm lens. That's all I have now. I intend to get very soon a wide angle lens (I love taking pictures of landscapes, see, open air), a set of a good filters, and some program for afterwords, maybe Lightroom3.
I have some (theoretical) knowledge about photography. On other side what I don't know is many, many times more. I have so much to learn, it scares me. Seeing thousands of great peaces "for real", and even more on internet made me extremely critical about photo's in general, and I am not easily impressed.
For now I don't think I will post pictures done by me (well, except the one here below), I don't want to embarrass myself in front of everyone (yet). But as soon as I get the courage, I will do it.
This looks like a great place and I look forward to seeing more from you and educating myself here.
Hi: Am new to this site. Actually stumbled upon this site while trying to read specifications and reviews of some cameras. Found the site interesting, especially in the area of tutorials which an amateur like me will benefit a lot from. I am a canon fan and have a G9 with all accessories and a 550D and am trying to purchase a telelens preferrably one of the L USM. I like to take photos of just about everything. Mostly i love taking them without flash. Its fascinating to take photos of the sky and the sunset. I look forward to meeting some friends and learning more from here.
Diana
Please be assured - you should never be embarrassed by any image you ever post here. That is one of the wonderful things about CiC - it is a community that's focused on learning and appreciates that people cannot learn unless they experiment and make mistakes. This is not the sort of site in which you will be criticised by anybody, ever. You will receive constructive criticism that is aimed at helping.
So please do feel able to post your work.
Welcome, and I hope you enjoy being part of CIC
And I'm very glad you did. Hello and welcome.

In addition to the tutorials, I hope you find out that this forum is also a valuable source of support and learning. You'll find many people on here very willing to share their extensive knowledge and experience in order to help others develop their photographic skills. So, please do join in.
Hello to you all,
My name is Gary and I have got myself back into photography after many years out of the game. More mature members like myself will probably remember the Pentax K1000 well that was my last dslr camera way back in the 1980's. Last year I decided to get back into photography again and I bought myself a Nikon D3000 entry level camera, well since then my passion as returned with a vengeance and I have now got myself a Nikon 50mm f1:4 prime lens, a Tamron 10mm-24mm wide angle and more recently a Tamron 70mm-300mm telephoto lens. I have had some pleasing results with these lenses but I realise that there is so much to learn and for this reason I have joined this website in the hope that I can get some good tips and enhance my skills further.
I shall look forward to meeting new members in due course and learn from you all and hopefully one day I hope to share my knowledge with others.
Regards
Gary
